All you can hear is static. With original batteries, new batteries, 2 feet away, 10 feet away, 20 feet away, indoors, outdoors. Very disappointing. I got these as a gift and luckily my son's friend opened them at our house to play with our son. I would have felt AWFUL, and extremely embarrassed, if he had opened these at his house and had them not work like this.
If I could give them no stars, I would. They didn't work AT ALL. Just a little static sound. My boys were very disappointed.

I have two grandsons ages 5 and 9, both into anything Star Wars. I bought these because they are age appropriate and what kid doesn't like walkie talkies? Put batteries in them and tried them out before wrapping and shipping. There was no volume control and you could barely hear through the static. I guess they will have to do since there is no time to replace them, but I wouldn't recommend them and would never buy them for another child. Cute but not very functional.
My son and I couldn't hear each other. We were in an empty field on a clear day 10 feet from each other with fresh batteries.
My husband was so excited to get this and use it with our 3 year old son. He put new batteries in it, and all he got was static. They never worked. Very disappointing!
Received an open used item and toys were terrible. Nothing but static.
Product arrived open, which leads me to believe someone else had already purchased the walkie talkies and returned them due to them not working! Nothing but static could be heard. True waste of money, wish I would have listened to the other reviews and saved myself the hassle.
When we turned them on, it was an instant static sound. We tried to go farther from each other (going into the other room) and still static. We couldn't talk to each other at all. Wasn't very happy with wasting money on these.
My 4 year old picked these out and was so excited but after opening them up they did not work. We changed out the batteries and even had the kids stand right next to each other and nothing would get them to work so I had to deal with a crying child all night...This is a garbage product.
