I've been wanting a drawing table in my home for a long time. Every place I look, the price is just way too much for my budget. I saw this on this site, and I had to get it. I was thinking, "red?". But it doesn't make a difference. What does make a difference is that it IS adjustable. It's built sturdy enough, and when I don't use it for drawing, I use my laptop on it. I even had it delivered, and it was still at a great price, including shipping. I am considering buying at WalMart Online again and using their shipping on other purchases, now.
I purchased both this red drafting table and the white tractor chair for my daughter's 14th birthday, and she adores them, constant use! A score! The photo absolutely does not do justice to this product. Solid wood top, metal legs, fully adjustable. Of course one may also adjust it down flat for desk use. I am a very pick, cranky old woman, so I would have engineered the base a bit differently. However, my child is absolutely delighted...and her MOM bought it...and she IS A TEEN,lol. The actual desk top is huge, while appropriate for kids and teens, an adult should be equally satisfied with this product.
I bought this for my husband. It is great! I really would recommend this for an adult or a teenager. It is great for drafting and a good desk to do homework at!
This table makes projects of all kinds easier to tackle. About a medium on difficulty of assembly but it is well worth the effort- did it by my self but would probably go a bit faster with two. All in all an excellent product for a hard to beat price- most adjustable drafting tables with storage cost at least double this.
I'm a graduate architectural student. I bought this because I was sick of hunching over a straight, flat table to do all of my hand drafting. I got this and had it shipped to the local store, at which it arrived fairly quickly. Although some people choose to draft directly on the drafting table, I choose to draft on another board placed directly on top of the table (as I have since I learned to draft almost a decade ago). I have read some reviews that state it is difficult to draft directly on the table because the surface is too rough. This surface roughness is not an issue for me when working with trace, vellum or mylar. I don't know what others are used to working with as far as surfaces are concerned but I don't think it is rough at all, certainly not enough to affect the end-result of one's drafting work. If you do draft directly on the surface of the drafting table, purchase the reddish-orange color. While not immediately apparent when internet shopping, drafting directly on a black table will render your drawings almost impossible to see unless you paste a white paper unerneath your drafting media. Plus, who wants to draft in front of a black drafting table all day? Not me...the red might look ugly in the WalMart advertisement photo but it is actually quite a cheerful color; too, the reddish color looks appropriate for the table's given use for whatever reason. There is a lip on the bottom of the table, which is a must have. I don't know how people can get away with not having a lip of the bottom of their drafting tables, but some manufacturers ("ALVIN" brand, for example) still produce drafting tables this way. In any case, this assures the draftsman that he may tilt this board any way he chooses (up to almost 90 degrees vertical) without fear that his t-square, triangles, pencil and whatever else will fall on the floor when he lets go of them. It also allows the draftsman to do as I do and place a separate drafting board on top of the table without fear it will slide off. The table is adjustable for height. I'm 6' 2.5" tall and this table fits me just fine. A structural stability bar on the bottom of the table assures the draftsman a sure and steady surface on which to write, as it is intrinically anchored during use by the draftsman's feet being naturally placed on top of this bar. There are baskets on the side which can slide fully forward or fully backward (in case you need to get them out of your way). These baskets are another important feature that many other similar drafting tables do not offer for one reason or another. on the right side, there is a place to store hardcover books (softcovers sometimes bow inwards and slide through) and a draftsman's materials box (if you happen to have a box in which to store your wares). Be sure to purchase a clip-on lamp for this desk, as it will generally be necessary. These can also be purchased at WalMart for under $10.00 depending on which style you choose. I personally purchased a WalMart polymer clip-on lamp with a blue body & CFL bulb; works just fine and is very bright.
