Once you debloat and freeze all anachronic apps and services this packed Android 4.4.4 version is composed of, then you'll have a real pocket smartphone so sharp that can easily compete with even the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - maybe higher - in all technical departments, including signal reception, data transfering, streaming, teleconferencing, web surfing, multitasking, productivity, numerical computation, 3D processing, GPS, etc., etc. Antutu benchmark is around 22000, which is pretty awesome for its market share. An unknown secret few people know about is that it actually records at 1920x1080 pixel resolution, whereas the camera focus features are limited, though; so close-range are not as good as long-range photos/videos. Default screen dimmer is pretty lame and tends to drain battery. Third-party apps such as "Dimly" will do the trick for you. Both Android-Kitkat stock launcher and factory soft keys are also kind of sore at times. The issue can be resolved easily via "Nova Launcher" app. LCD screen sports a very high 233 ppi saturation for a 4'' display, which is higher than most devices of its range (e.g. ZTE Fanfare 3 LTE or ZTE Majesty Pro Plus LTE), so expect clear and sharp images when you don't tilt the little TFT display. The device does not recognize micro SD cards greater than 32GB. In order to avoid internal-memory overflow, make sure you configure/move all possible apps, offline maps, email cache, Chrome cache, YouTube cache, photos and video all pointing out to the external SD card. I also have noticed that there's a lot of confusion on the actual sheet specs of this device easily turmoiled with the A520L or the Nova model, which are very close related but not exactly the same as this A521L model.
I have to admit to being a prepaid phone snob (if they are so cheap there must be something wrong...well you'll have a ball trying to communicate with straight talk customer service but it's still all good). After switching to a well known cellular carrier and getting the old bait and switch plus a few other brilliant moves on their part, I figure they can make suppositories out of those top of the line phones. For $60 this is really impressive! So far it does everything I need a smartphone to do. It's just as fast as my iphone. It has all the apps I like to use. It pretty much does everything. Camera is definitely not as brilliant color wise but it'll do. I didn't expect all this after using a phone that cost 10 times as much as this one but I don't think I will miss that old fancy phone. Close to $50 a month for service and I get way more data than the big famous company. Those fools only gave us 4gs a month for sharing between two phones. We got 5 for each phone now. So far so good. If this thing falls apart after a year or two it's still a win when you figure how much you pay the big carriers for the phone payments and insurance.
this is a good phone .works well where i live which others do not work at all . its easy to use if you like androids which i do.good memory .down side is does not come with SD card you need to provide your own, other then that all an all like this phone .
Nice little low cost smart phone works well and easy to use.
Internal storage space is so low (1.24GB) that you are really limited with what you can do. Just to be able to install an app you have to go through and clear the cache in each app just to make room for the new app. C'mon Alcatel you can do better than that! .... Also this phone drops calls quickly once you reach -110dbm signal strength. My girlfriend's moto-e hangs on to those calls where this on won't and it is a pain since I live in an area with poor signal reception.
I just got this phone. Well. My phone went out and I called straighttalk and they said this phone was part of the bring your own phone plan and asked if the oeiginal service was at&t. It isn't its straighttalk. I bought just the phone online from Walmart. The date and time keeps resetting to December of 2014 7:00 Screen is a little to small I keep hitting the wrong keypads my fingers are a little big Phone is ok
I can't even send and receive calls! I've had this phone for 6 days. I've added 4 contacts and one app. That's it. As of last night it is completely unusable because the phone storage is full. The app I added is on the SD card so what's filled it up is the unremovable bloat ware it came pre-loaded with. I didn't expect an amazing phone but I expected better than this.
Phone started off pretty good as a cheap replacement for my last phone. Though alarms don't go off if silenced half the time, good reception but drops calls too. Worked great 3 months and now it won't make calls, selects things I did not, space is gone even with sd card and Nothing on phone. Trying a galaxy s5 now as I'm tired of cheap phones
I got this phone as a replacement for one I brought from another carrier due to damage during a vacation. This phone couldn't get a signal if you were standing next to the tower. I've got a 32GB SD card in it and have only downloaded one app and it was moved to the SD card and still get insufficient storage errors.
I can't download any apps. Says I don't have enough room. So I go to settings and it says I have enough memory to download the app 5 times, but keeps telling me not enough space. From other reviews i have looked at, it seems the problem won't be solved by purchasing a memory card either.
