Ok so I've always been against smart phones, because I don't like phones smarter than me, and I hate touch screens. However, this has been an awesome phone for beginners. Perfect in price and just enough technology to wonder why I hadn't switched over years ago! I hate texting with a touch screen, so I use talk to text and love downloading apps. Some people have complained about the time changing on it and having to turn it off and back on, I just go to the Date & Time settings and unclick on time changes and click them back on and it resets to the correct time. Only thing I probably don't like is sometimes the slowness of the internet, and not enough RAM on phone, but I downloaded apps for security and to clean up my junk files, etc. I bought a really good 3 level phone protector off Amazon that comes with a belt clip and protects the screen, since everyone I know has cracked screens. This is all deff worth the $$ for the phone.
Never having had a smart phone I didn't want to put a lot of money down to try it. This little phone is awesome - does wonderful pictures and videos as well. Highly recommend it for the price.
About 6 months ago, my wife’s Straight Talk (ST) LG Optimus Logic went bust on a trip, so I got her the ST Centura at a Walmart. At the time I was using the ST Samsung Proclaim. Her Centura worked very well, especially since it had Android 4.0 instead of 2.1. When we got home, the Thanksgiving Black Friday ad came out and when I noticed that the phone was only $29 instead of the $99 that I paid for my wife’s phone, I could not stop myself from buying one for me :-). Because her LG phone went bust on a trip, I realized that we needed to carry a spare phone with us---That now is my ST Proclaim. The phone works very well. It does have one problem I had read about and noticed myself. Sometimes the clock shows a different time—right out of the blue. I have not looked that hard for a fix yet, but just reboot the phone and its OK. The Android 4.0 means that you can download more apps than with a 2.1 phone. I haven’t tried all the features, but it seems to have more features than my Proclaim. Really nice ST phone.
Love the phone so far--having to learn by trial and error mostly, as instructions are not clear for someone who is not at all familiar with this type phone (Iphone, Android, etc.). Other than that, I would say the downside is that you have to charge it regularly as it "eats up" battery time.
I bought this phone as a Black Friday deal with the intent on replacing my LG slider phone. The LG was running on an older Gingerbread version of Android and had FREQUENT memory problems due to its low amount of internal memory. I did like the QWERTY slider keyboard on the LG but thought I'd be able to adapt to only using the display keyboard on the new Samsung given some time. Boy was I wrong - the on-display keyboard is easy to use and I had no problem adjusting to it. Even better is the option to use Google voice-recognition to compose text messages and WOW is it accurate!! So much quicker than typing! The Samsung Galaxy Centura uses Android Jellybean and is so much faster than my old phone. It also has more internal memory (sorry, can't recall off the top of my head how much) but I've installed a few apps and have dozens of text message on the phone and still haven't encountered the dreaded low memory message! The display is clear and large, I give this phone 5 *'s!!!!
I bought this phone online during the Black Friday sale, so the phone was half what it normally costs. I have had the phone for about two weeks and haven’t had any issues with it. Some people said there was an issue with the phone not hanging up after calls, but I haven’t experienced that issue. Also, I made sure to add a screen lock with a passcode to prevent the sensitive touchscreen from misdialing or inadvertently opening up an app. For the money, this is a decent a cell.
I was going to purchase an Apple Iphone for straight talk but when I saw this phone for such a great price I couldn't pass it up. I am not disappointed! I used to have an Ipod which I liked but I broke it. I bought a kindle, which I also like but this is like having my Ipod back. I didn't realize how much I missed my Ipod. I also spent 200.00 for my Ipod but this is a much better deal because it has all the features of the Ipod plus I can make phone calls with it. The reception is good, camera better than the Ipod, can get all of the apps as you would on Apple through Google play. The only complaint is auto correct, which can be tricky and still wish the camera had more mega pixels but pictures can also be improved through adobe photoshop as well as apps you can download to your phone. I would recommend this phone and with the 45 dollar per month unlimited everything, you can't go wrong.
I have had this phone for 5 days. This phone has plenty of features especially for the price. I am considering sending it back because the battery dies within 4 hours. I have charged it overnight and it simply does not hold a charge beyond 4 hours. If the phone would stay charged for a longer duration I would recommend this phone to friends.
The phone has several issues. The time will reset itself, therefore can't trust it to be used for a alarm or tell the correct time, have to turn off the phone then back on then it resets itself to the correct time, this happens every 3-4 hours. It reboots itself a couple times out of the day. Warning message comes on after phone is turned back on to not use a different OS, I'm using the one it came with, I don't know why it repeatedly shows this warning upon start up of phone. It shuts itself off. Turns blue-tooth on when its suppose to be off. Loses Network, while on the the net. Overall, if I had known about these problems I wouldn't have bought the phone. I'm really shocked a Samsung product is so terrible. I needed a phone quickly and got this one while it was on sale. I will keep it until I can afford to purchase a new and better phone.
Within a month and a half of owning the phone, it already was glitching so much I couldn't stand it. I couldn't even hang up a phone call! I literally had to restart my phone to end a phone call if someone on the other line didn't hang up. Messages sent from iPhones would show up blank. All over, maybe worth the $30 I spent on it. I didn't even use the phone for two months before I finally went to a contract phone with AT&T. I was always so anti-contract about my phone service. I've finally had it with Straight Talk phones and customer service (or lack there of) after two years and went to a real service provider.
