Fuji apples have been my "go to" apple for some time, but after a month of eating these Sugarbee apples, Fuji is now second on my list. The ultra-crisp texture, sweet flavor that will knock your socks off, and the unbelievable consistency make this apple a prize. These are similar in appearance to a Fuji or Honeycrisp, with a light golden flesh. When you bite into one, you can hear it across the room. Be prepared to catch some drips, as these are plenty juicy! Not as tart as a good Fuji, sweeter than a Honeycrisp, they have a sublime balance that you just have to try to become a believer. Sugarbee apples are fairly recent, discovered within a Honeycrisp orchard in Minnesota in the 1990's. This is a true open-pollinated apple ...it is not the result of any genetic engineering. The work was most likely done by a honey bee - cross pollination. It's known that half the parent was a Honeycrisp, but the other half is unknown. They have only been grown is sufficient numbers to be marketed nationwide in the last few years. I believe the first limited nationwide sales were in 2018. More in the next two years, and now in 2021 I am seeing them sold next to the major apple varieties. I want to take issue with one reviewer here who claimed these apples are "...crisp and bland, completely dry." I couldn't disagree more with that statement, except for the "crisp" part. You bet they are crisp - but "bland" and "dry?" Not at all. Perhaps the reviewer did not actually have a genuine Sugarbee apple? My experience is certainly the opposite. Considering the amazing consistency of these apples, I find that reviewer's claim hard to believe. I've been eating them now for a little over a month, and every one is as good as the last one - identical texture, flavor, juiciness, and appearance. It's amazing, really. This consistency apple-to-apple is something I've never quite seen before. I've always loved a Fuji, but they are all over the map. Some sweet, some tart. Yes, they all have that special Fuji taste, but the degree of it varies a lot. None of that is true with Sugarbee apples. I know I sound like an advertising guy or something, but they really are that good. Evidently, these Sugarbee apples have better shelf life than do Honeycrisp apples, which can go downhill rather rapidly if they sit around for long. I read in apple-grower publications that the Sugarbee does not have that problem. So, if you think a Honeycrisp or Fuji is the best of apples, I'd urge you to try Sugarbee apples. I think you'll end up with a new favorite. Now, be aware, if you think a Granny Smith or any other sour - okay, tart - apple is best, you might not end up as wild about these. They are certainly on the sweet side, but not cloyingly sweet by any means. Just right.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love Crisp crunchy Apples! These apples are very similar to Honeycrisps apples with the perfect balance of sweet/tart crispness. It has a refreshing apple taste. Can pair well with cheeses or baked into pie or an apple crumble crisp. I would definitely recommend if your a crisp, crunchy, tart apple lover.
I literally requested “no substitutes.” Apples have labels on them to let people know what type they are. Sugar Bee apples are currently $1.45 each and Pink Ladys are on sale for 83 cents each. I paid for Sugar Bee apples. Why is this so difficult?
Every time I order curbside pick up I'm always given rotten, moldy produce. It's terrible and disgusting and I'm tired of it.
Received Delicious type apples instead of Honeybee apples, which are more costly. I was never told they substituted without my knowledge. And, the Delicious apples are not delicious; mushy inside and not tasty.
I ordered Sugar Bee apples and my substitute was Honey Crisp. I got Red Delicious apples, which we do not like. If Honey Crisp was not available, I did not want another substitute.
Received bruised and shriveled pink lady apples. Charged for the more expensive one. Not notified of any changes (would have declined/ alternate option provided on order)
My delivery order included 4 honey bee red apples, well all four of the apples had rotten patches on the them, who ever picked out those apples for my order needs to be fired, who ever you are would you pick rotten apples for your self, no you would not
Every time a have an order thats coming in afternoon the driver rides pass my home. I'm standing in my garage waiting and I see them drive by. Once my groceries got delivered at wrong address thank god the person who got my or be Er posted on tge community page.
When you are shopping for someone I would expect that you would shop as if you were shopping for your self. I am pretty sure when picking apples that cost $2.58 a %23 you would look at each one and not select one with obvious bruises and damage on 3 sides and you would not pick another apple with a hole in it. VERY disappointing! Add this to the driver who delivered to the wrong house and it's been an aggravating morning.
