I've owned one of these humidifiers for nearly a year now. I received mine as a gift in May of 2013 as I have some tropical plants that need humidity to stay healthy... I use it nearly every day. Its not that loud. At times it is nearly silent while pumping out vapor. Just recently it started to have the flashing lights indicating it was overheating, even though there was water in the tank, and I thought it had outlived its useful life and I would need to throw it away. I checked the manual and it recommended you clean the unit once a week. I had never cleaned it at all since buying it. So I took it apart and found a significant amount of mineral deposits to remove from the evaporated water. Once I cleaned it and put it back together, it would still shut off unexpectedly. But after a day of turning it back on it started to work normally. This is a good inexpensive humidifier if you take care of it. The screw on cap for the water container is a bit tricky to seat, but if you don't force it you'll get it on and it won't leak. I'm happy with mine. Its still working and after a year that's saying something for a device like this that is getting hot for ten hours a day...
We have used other warm mist humidifiers as well as ultrasonic ones ranging from inexpensive to expensive and have decided this Sunbeam humidifier works the best for us. Other units we used needed to be reset or cleaned literally every day. I don't have time for that, actually it's annoying. This Sunbeam works well. In fact we purposely purchased two to have a spare.
We now have two and really enjoy not getting shocked every time I touch a light switch. Also when I make the bed in the morning no sparks. Really happy with the product. The only problem I bought the service contract on one and never received, felt I wasted that $6.50 so didn't buy on the second.
pros it does the job. no filters unlike most other sunbeam humidifiers had for 3 months no problems even though i use it very fequently cons noisy if you leave the setting on high water finishes relatively fast not a big deal but if the container isnt closed properly the humdifier leaks water
We purchased this for our son's room. After the first night he complained that it was loud and he couldn't fall asleep with it on so we had to wait until he fell asleep to turn it on for the night. Then after about 2 months I went to fill it in the morning and it wasn't working. The light was on but it was not running. I unplugged it for about 15 minutes and tried it again but it still did not work. It is less expensive but I would have expected it to work longer than 2 monthes.
I just bought this item as I needed a warm mist humidifier right away and they seem to be hard to come by without waiting for it to be shipped. Sunbeam seems like it should be a good company so I went ahead and bought it. This item was so loud that it almost kept me up all night. It sounded like water boiling. Compared to other humidifiers I have had previously the steam output on this item when I put it on the low setting was more like the high setting. When I finally shut it off and checked the humidity, I saw that it was off the charts. This item is going back to the store.
This is our 2nd Sunbeam humidifier. This one lasted 1 year. Now it won't reset. The lights continue to blink. It won't heat to dispense vapor. Also, as others have mentioned, it is noisy and can't make it through a 7 hour night without needing to be refilled. Won't purchase again. Looking for another brand.
I can't speak to the longevity of this product, only the LOUD audible performance of this little bubbler. Filled her up with filtered water, she kicked out steam fast and it was nice and warm - very mist like, then she released her first gurgle, bubble, riiiiiiiiiiipppppppp. I turned it to the lower setting, she did not quite in the least bit. I would not recommend this humidifier if you plan to stay in the room with it- too noisy.
I should have read the reviews before I bought this item. It isn't good enough for a small room and only worked 1 day. Turned it off to go to bed and never could get it off the blinking reset lights in the morning. Took it back to Walmart ( no hassle for the return - good job Walmart )
While I was incredibly impressed with Walmart's speed in delivering this item to me (I ordered it Monday afternoon and I had it Tuesday evening), the item iteself was NOT good. I plugged it in and it proceed to glow for a second, started to smell and that was the last thing it did. Thankfully returning it to Walmart was easy.
