we had boung this model last year cant remember the time. worked well never had a problem and we cleaned it up and packed it away until this year. this year not a problem still works well.just need to clean in about once a week but we love it thinking on buying another one this year for the upstairs.
purchased 12/16/10 -- malfunctioned nov 12. would stay on even with switch off. Sunbeam was great---REPLACED IT. just received new unit--interestingly it is NOT this model. Is there a defect?
I live in a 1 BR apartment of 850 sq ft. I purchased the previous but nearly identical model of this humidifier last Fall, and have been very satisfied! Here in Colorado, we don't need humidifiers during the warmer months, but the colder months are notoriously dry. Right now, for example, it's 60 deg outside with 16% humidity. That's painfully dry! In these conditions, this humidifier keeps my entire apartment in the 20-30% humidity range when on low, and in the 30-40% humidity range when on high. I does have a humidistat, which is ideal for small room situations, such as a baby's room, and I've tested it - it works just fine, +/- between 7-10% relative humidity. The settings include 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and Stay On. Because of the size of my apartment, I keep it set to Stay On, and simple toggle between the low and high settings as required. Couple of notes about other people's comments: 1. "Loud popping sound." If anything, this unit emits a soft gurgle, more like a "blurp ... blurp ...," and that's when it's set to high. When it's set to low, it's barely audible. When I can hear it, it's more calming, soothing, and refreshing than anything else. It's certainly not annoying. 2. "I put it on a towel and after running for a while the towel was soaked." This occurs with cool mist units, not warm mist units, so I'm pretty sure this guy either rated/commented on the wrong product, failed to tighten the cap/valve properly, improperly assembled his unit, spilled his drink on the counter, or or he actually had a leak. Just to be certain, though, I put down a towel for 24 hours with the unit set to high. Result: Dry as a bone, as was expected. By the way, this is the SECOND one of these units I've purchased. The first was for a friend, and she absolutely loves it!
I wanted to replace an existing humidifier. I sought certain options such as a digital humidistat. I finally decided on this unit. I put the humidifier to work and soon heard loud popping. I thought that this may be a temporary issue and let the unit continue to operate for 24 hours. The next day the popping continued and was worse when set to the higher output setting. I looked in the operations manual. It states: *Loud Boiling Noise, Cause - Unit is set too high, Solution - This is normal operation. To minimize the noise level, operate the unit on low setting. Since I was already operating the humidifier on low and the popping is loud enough to be distracting while watching TV, and can be heard down the hall to sleep I am taking it back. Other than the boiling popping, the unit does work very well.
I have always had very good luck with sunbeam items; however, I bought 2 of these humidifiers to use for this winter. I set the dial to 40%. I also place the humidifiers on towels, because I have learned in the past that you will get a little condensation plus I have laminate floors. However, after the first day of using the humidifiers, the towels under the machines were saturated. I couldn't find a leak or anything, so I thought I would just change out the towels and try again. Same thing happened 2 days later. Several times even though the tank may be full of water, the machine alarms that the tank is empty. I have turned the machine off and on without success. I have unplugged and plugged back in the machine without success. I am done messing with these machines. When the machines work and aren't leaking they are great, but not worth the hassle.
I bought this in January of 2010 because it had a large reservoir and would not need to be filled as often. It worked great for occasional use for the two months that we needed the extra humidity. Then it was thoroughly cleaned and put away until last month. Out is came to give us moisture. Worked fine for two weeks, then the on/off button stopped working and would remain on all the time. We started to just unplug it to turn it off. About one week of that and the unit stopped working all together. No power at all. I was hoping that it would last a lot longer than my previous humidifier that I had for about seven years. This one only gave me about three months of occasional use....certainly not worth the $50 price. Now I am looking for a new humidifier but I won't buy this brand again.
It worked for 3 weeks and then would no longer work. The empty tank light came on even when the tank was full. It would no longer generate the mist. Sunbeam is sending a replacement although it isn't the same model. Does make you wonder if there are problems. Hopefully the next one will be better than this.
Purchased the on 12-8 of this year - heard loud popping sounds 1st night of use. Worked for about 1 week off and on. Then upon the 2nd time of refilling the unit-it started to operate as if it has a mind of its' own - when shut off it works for a short period of time and then when you turn it on, it does not work. So we had to unplug the unit for safety reasons. Retried, and still can not get this unit to work properly and most times not at all. We've decided to take this back for a full refund. Not sure if I will purchase another Sunbeam or not.
