A Crafter's Best Friend – Cordless Or Corded

Reviewed in the USA on 2019-03-14T17:00:00

My favorite hobby is making craft items using real wine corks. Quality cork is becoming scarce and lots of newer 'corks' are now being made of composite materials. A couple of my favorite projects are cork wreaths and clocks featuring cork laden borders or other kinds of characteristics using real wine corks. At present I am working on a 24 inch diameter cork wreath and was pleased to review this Surebonder Cordless 60 Watt High Temperature Glue Gun in exchange for the product. I love the option of using this glue gun with or without a cord. There are times when having to drag a cord over my project is not ideal. Sometimes the cord gets easily caught or snagged upon the nooks and crannies of the corks protruding from my wreaths. Even though my wreaths are symmetrical, the corks project out at many different angles (see attached pics). I will glue approximately 500 to 600 hundred corks on a typical large wreath using anywhere from 30 to 40 glue sticks. Real cork is very porous and easily glued. Because I use so many I ordered several packages of 50 Surebonder, 0.43 inch diameter, high temp glue sticks on-line from Walmart. So, once I get started it is non-stop gluing until the wreath is finished. In the beginning the cord plugged directly into the glue gun is fine. But, about half-way through my wreath it is great to be able to use this glue gun in cordless mode. The high temperature is just what I need to get my corks to bond together using just a couple of drops of glue. I have arthritis so having a light, ergonomically-designed, full-sized glue gun like this Surebonder CL-800F is a plus, plus. WooHoo! The corded, base stand is user-friendly. Once I got used to laying the glue gun onto the base at an angle it became second nature to me. The glue gun makes good contact for re-charging when it is inserted properly into its base stand. Just takes a little practice. I like that the designers included a silicone, drip pad on the base stand for any glue dripping from the insulated nozzle. Keeps my work surfaces from getting damaged. YooHoo! Now for the BASICS: This model Surebonder Glue Gun is 60 watt and high temperature, 380 degrees F. It is not adjustable and can't be used for low-temp glue projects. Other features: On/Off switch, with power indicator light, insulated nozzle for safety, side fins on the gun so it can be laid down safely on its side without a glue backup and, contains a safety fuse that will shut the gun down in case of malfunction or overheating. The glue gun uses a standard sized, 0.43 inch diameter high temperature glue stick. So far I have used this Surebonder glue gun continuously for over five hours. It has worked great for me up to this point in time. Since Surebonder is a recognized leader in glue guns I expect to use this glue gun for a long time. Therefore, I highly recommend this Surebonder Cordless 60 Watt High Temperature Glue Gun for light to medium craft projects similar to my wreaths. This would make a great gift for any family member or friend that you know, who is interested in crafts requiring a high temp glue gun. It is not expensive, and, so far has lived up to my craft project needs.

The Surebonder Cordless/Corded High Temp Glue Gun is a well fit product. I do a lot of craft projects and it works out perfectly. First of all, it's a well packaged item. It has a stand for this item, and that's a great feature. You don't have to lay the glue gun on the table where it drips when left on with the glue stick is still left in the chamber. It also has a built in glue pad for drips. It heats up really fast. You can handle the grip of the item really well. The trigger handle pushes the glue stick thru smoothly. With my craft projects of making diaper cakes, I use the glue gun a lot. I have to glue the ribbons and other items on the diaper cakes. I even use the glue gun to make wedding decorations and it turned out perfectly. I would usually take the glue gun with me when going to events where I have made displays in the event where I may have to use it for quick fixes. Also, I love the cordless feature because the glue gun is much more maneuverable and easy to operate than using a cord with it. It seems to be a 'wow factor' that I can just charge it up and fix things quickly without any disasters. I have purchased other models of glue guns but this one is my favorite compared to all the rest. Overall, it is a great product and I will recommend it to other customers. From a rating of 1 thru 10, I would have to give it a 10. Great product.

CORDLESS!!!

I have never heard of a cordless hot glue gun and I have to say I LOVE IT! I have also never had such a large hot glue gun; I have only ever had smaller ones for little projects. However, I am helping my cousin with her wedding and she wanted to make a tiered looking table (to resemble a cake, if you will). To accomplish this, I started with a card table and then used PVC pipe to give the height and plywood to make the platform. Then we put fruit and veggies and crackers on the tiers and it was gorgeous (this was the appetizer station). So to make this happen and for it to be sturdy, I needed a way to “connect” the PVC pipes and plywood so that if someone bumped the table my tiers would not tumble (eek- can you imagine?). This hot glue gun was SO PERFECT! It was able to go where I needed it since it is cordless. I love the glue pad for drips. The nozzle is insulated which definitely kept it from burning me (though it is still quite hot). I definitely would recommend this for all your DIY projects! Works great and I love the cordless feature!

BEST Glue Gun for Crafts!

I was very excited to receive this product for free to write a review. I do a lot of arts and crafts with my daughter and already have 2 glue guns. This gun works so much better than the others I have. First of all, if you've ever used a glue gun, sometimes it is very hard when you pull the trigger to get the glue to move through the dispenser and the body of the gun. This gun takes 2 glue sticks to get started, but it grabs them tightly and moves them along in the gun effortlessly. You don't need to squeeze hard for the glue to come out and you don't have to actually push the glue stick to make it work (like some models). The glue comes out really hot and it's super adhesive. I used a cotton material, a plastic material and a cardboard material and glued each one to some construction paper. The glue dries clear and the control of the trigger is spot on. Just apply a little pressure and you can get a small dot of glue. Apply more pressure and you can get a long line or giant dot of glue for your craft. Because it dries clear, it doesn't distract from the project. Also, this glue gun is CORDLESS! It can be used up to 2 full minutes not on the charger. There's also a handy "drip" table that opens to catch any leaking glue. I will never use my other glue guns. I love this one! Perfect for older kids and adults alike!

I received the Surebonder Cordless High Temperature Glue Gun and this is what a true crafter has been waiting for. I can't tell you how many times I've been confined to where I am doing crafts just because of where an outlet is located, not anymore. Yes, you do have to return it to the base in between uses, but being able to not have any wires to hold me back is awesome! I can now help both my girls at the same time with projects or crafts and go to where they are instead of one child at a time because there isn't enough room near where I am stuck at near the outlet. But then also be able to make it a corded glue gun as it too can fit the power source. The heat up and melting of the glue was speedy and perfect. You will need full sized glue sticks for this great glue gun. I highly recommend.

Love the cordless feature of this glue gun - so much easier to maneuver than corded guns. I also really like the charging stand with the drip pad. I always hated laying my old glue gown down on its side and getting melted glue everywhere, so messy. This makes using hot glue so much easier! The only thing I don't like about it is the trigger is harder to squeeze than my old glue gun. Not a huge problem for adult hands, but I let my kids use it now and then and they had trouble with it, had to use both hands to squeeze and got a little shaky with it. Maybe it will loosen up after a few uses. Would still recommend because of the other great features.

Nice Improvements

Following review is on the Surebonder Cordless High Temperature Glue Gun, 60 watts. I recently joined the wonderful world of crafting, so this is all new grounds for me. However, just based on possible interest, I know a must have tool for my kit is a glue gun. I did purchase a craft set a few months back that included the following: • Mini glue gun • Pen gun • Paper cutter • Scissors • Blade utensil Now, the gun worked just fine, however, I felt there was room for a couple of improvements. ISSUES: • First Issue - Not having the freedom to move about. Very Frustrating! • Second Issue - Where to lay the gun when not in use? <<<Now>>> With the Surebonder Cordless High Temperature Glue Gun I no longer have to deal with either of these problems. I really like having the freedom to take my gun to my craft instead of having to find an outlet, carry my things and sit next to the wall. The gun only last for a couple of minutes (2-4) off the charging base so a setback is yes, it needs to be placed on the charger when not in use. Still better than being tied to the wall. With that said, next point - thank you for including a stand with pad to catch any spills. To this point I haven't experienced leaking, however, if possible I will pull back or remove the glue stick when not using. The bond itself is great, at least for my needs (repairs or light to medium projects). Thankfully, I'm good about powering off and unplugging (learned habits) but it's nice to know the gun has an automatic shut down for protection. To sum up, I'm very pleased with my cordless gun and with Easter around the corner and two little one's this is a great tool that i'm sure to get plenty of use from.

I like the cordless feature of this gun. You can either plug the cord directly into the gun and use it as a corded gun or unplug it and use it as cordless for up to 2 mins. You can also use the stand to charge. I feel the indicator light would be more useful if it turned from red to green when it reached optimal temperature. Another place for improvement would be the trigger itself. I felt it was hard the squeeze to dispense the glue, even after letting it warm up 5 mins as instructed. Maybe that will get better with use, but caused some soreness in my wrist after use. Overall nice glue gun but a few tweaks could make it better!!

This Surebonder Cordless High-Temperature Glue Gun is a great concept. The fact that you can use it cordlessly is a plus when trying to hot glue those large projects with a short cord. This glue gun is made of hard, black and green plastic. It has a holder that is very useful and a 'drip' pan for the ooze of the glue at the end. It heated up quickly but unfortunately, my review does not include how I used it as it would not allow me to squeeze the glue out. Either there was something wrong with the trigger or something wrong with the nozzle.

I'm new to using high temp glue guns. I've had low temp ones before--my favorite being a cheapy that has to be over twenty years old. I like doing crafts with them, but the fact that you always had a cord getting in the way was annoying. I was interested in this Surebonder cordless model just for that fact alone. Not having to be tethered to a wall plug all the time sounded like heaven. This particular model comes with a stand with a silicone pad that won't get damaged if hot glue drips on it. Plug in the glue gun either directly or into the stand and turn on the power button. I appreciate when the power is on, there's a red indicator at the rear of the gun that lets you know. I wish it would go out or turn color or something to let you know when the gun has sufficiently heated up and is ready to use because it was hard to tell. I waited the five minutes it states in the instructions, but I still wasnt getting any glue coming out of it even with two glue sticks loaded. And I made sure I bought the correct ones. After about another five minutes, I was able to press out a little glue and a few minutes more a little more. This was with the plug connected directly to the gun. The only thing is it took a feat of strength to squeeze the trigger enough to get out a steady bead of glue. My other glue gun squeezes much more easily so I'm not sure if this is something all high temp guns share or not, but it would be an issue for me as my hand got tired fast. I was able to unplug the gun and run it for a couple minutes cordless so that capability does work as promised and the couple of pieces of wood I glued together to test bonded very well. Unfortunately I'd have to pass on this due to the long warm up time and that hard trigger.
