When we unboxed it , it was simple to connect the cord and plug in. It was ready to use immediately. It has a very large reservoir to hold the shavings.
I've used electric pencil sharpeners as a teacher in high school and in my home. The Swingline Electric Pencil Sharpeners do an excellent job keeping pencils sharp and ready to use. They also contain the filings from the pencils so they are easy and clean to dispose of. If you are in a situation where people around you use pencils, an electric pencil sharpener is a must and the Swingline brand is most reliable.
I love this product especially for the office because it makes little to no noise while sharpening. It gets the job done fast and clean with no mess. The end result is sharp sleek pencils with more time to get my job done.
It even lets you know when the sharpeners needs to be emptied. When it's full, it will not run, empty the shaving tray and you're good to go. My kids are into drawing and we've gone through a few pencil sharpeners over the years. I can honestly say this is the best one we've owned.
Great for sharpening pencils and making sure the pencil tip is equal all the way around, instead of just sharpening a side but leaving the wood on one side. Definitely recommend!
I had hoped this would be tough enough not to bog down when I put a pencil in, but my kids can still bring it to a halt sharpening a box of pencils. It is OK, but just OK.
I purchased one of these sharpeners for my kids in mid-August. As noted in the other reviews, it did not consistently sharpen the pencil in a uniform manner. By late January (5 months later), it had quit working all together. I returned it to the store but it was beyond the 90 day return period - in the garbage it went and we're out $30. I would not recommend this item.
I was looking for a good sharpener for my 2nd grader. It didn't have to be great...just sharpen the pencil. This doesn't do it. Like the other review said, it sharpens one side very well and the other is still covered with wood. I will be returning it.
Picked this thing up for my 3rd grader for Christmas, and thought for $30 it should work well. Wrong. Half the time, it won't even come on because the little tray that engages the safety mechanism doesn't fit tight. When it does come on, it's very noisy and slooooow to sharpen. When you do get a pencil sharpened, it comes to a nice point, but one side of the lead is still covered all the way to the point with wood because the blade isn't seated properly inside. Maybe I just got a bad one, but I'm going to take my $30 to the local office supply store and get a REAL electric sharpener (and a few bucks back in change).
When it worked, it worked great. Then after a few months the motor just hummed....didn't sharpen at all.
