I received a Targus backpack as part of a Dell laptop purchase in 1997. The laptop has been replaced multiple times but the bag survived until 2009 and I was flying every other week from 2002 - present. When the zipper finally gave way on the old bag in 2012 Targus was great. They no longer had the original design (with my schools mascot on it), but they had two Checkpoint-Friendly options. I selected this option. I've carried it weekly to work and every other week flying. The zip-through option is wonderful. Every now and then a checkpoint, usually a smaller airport, asks that I pull out the laptop, but at most airports I can just unzip and go. This bag holds my planner, my folders, my laptop, my noise canceling headphones, and multiple chargers. It also holds my medications and many other little items. It has great pockets for all kinds of items. I can even fit in my Garmin GPS. If this bag survives 15 years, I will get another Targus bag. They have great customer service, stand behind their products, and their design considers what people really need when traveling for work.
This is a great lap top bag with excellent compartments to store all other extras like wallet, smartnphone, chargers etc. Also comfortable to carry on your back wit good padding. I have tried backpacks by other manufacturers but always come back to targus. I work in Kenya and have to go out into thr field and remote.areas a.lot and this bag has just the right amount of space for that. Love it.
I was lucky to get this as a resale from someone that didn't end up wanting a backpack style bag. The retail price is a bit steep but overall the compartments are well designed and over a good mix of size and functionality. Overall a great design. I will have to wait to see how it holds up over daily use in the coming months....
I have had this pack for almost 2 years and love it, traveled all over the US and to the UK through many airports and no issues with TSA and have not had to take my laptop out once. Great idea
I have had this product for less than a year. It is great when you travel as you don't have to remove your laptop at TSA station at airports making it very convenient. Storage is adequate although a pocket in the main compartment has an elastic strap that things do tend to slip out off. My main beef though is the craftsmanship. Within 3 months the seam on the shoulder straps started fraying... Did not have enough material and with normal daily use I could see it starting to pull away. Now in less than a year, it has completely ripped and I can see the foam padding inside. They do offer a lifetime warranty so I will be sending it back but it is a major hassle. For the price you pay, this should not rip in less than a year!
I had a Targus bag with similar features that finally gave out. It was the best bag ever and I replaced it with this model. I'm disappointed in the quality of this bag and the organization as well. There are not as many inside panels, the small external zipper compartment is too small to fit a pen in easily, there is no padding or velcro strap in the laptop compartment and the side pockets to hold a water bottle are too small for a disposable bottle and overall the materials are very stiff. Maybe I'll get used to it but my first impression was not a good one.
I've now had three of these bags - two replacements. On all three the shoulder strap split a the top seam - probably didn't do an overlock stitch on the fabric ends before sewing things into the strap. Also the plastic of the adjustable buckles is weak - and breaks with use. I've had other backpacks that use Fastek hardware - strong and durable. Not on Targus bags. This happened twice And on this latest back (#3) I have additional tearing at the zipper seam where the computer rests at the bottom of the bag. Badly executed. Not made for travel.
