Tenth Man, The

Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins (1992 Best Actor for "The Silenece of the Lambs) stars in this compelling WWII drama about a wealthy lawyer in a small French village who is taken hostage by the Nazis and sentenced to death. Afraid to die, Chavel (Hopkins) signs over his entire estate to a man willing to trade his life in order to provide a better life for his sister Therese (Kristin Scott Thomas) and ailing mother When Chavel is released three years later, he returns to his war-ravaged home. Learning of Therese's hatred for Chevel, he hides his identity and gets hired on to help her out around the house. He soon falls in love with Therese, and her affliction for him mellows the bitterness of losing her beloved brother. But when an imposter shows up claiming to be Chavel, a murderous mystery unfolds and threatens their newfound tranquility. Derek Jacobi won an Emmy for his portrayal of the Imposter. Based on the novella by famed novelist Graham Greene ("The Fugitive"), "The Tenth Nan" is reminiscent of another stunning epic starring Anthony Hopkins, the highly successful "Howard's End.".
