I have this 3 gallon kit, and my betta loves it! The filter does not make any noise at all, and keeps the tank clean. The filter is a little big, but fits in the corner nicely. Really nice design. I will be purchasing another one for a second betta.
So I inherited this 3 gallon crescent setup from friends who were relocating and set it up on the shelf in my bar at home. threw four crayfish and voila!!! I have 2 other aquariums at home (20 and 100) so this was a happy clean quiet easy to maintain attractive addition!! Really happy with it.
I haven't had a fish tank in decades but I lost my mind this winter and decided I wanted a small tank with just a few fish...a simple, Zen hobby. I looked at all types of tanks and kits but decided the Tetra Crescent 5 gallon gave the best bang for the buck: a clean contemporary design which includes a basic lid, energy saving LED light and a quiet internal filter. All I had to add was a heater. And decorations. And a fish! Though it's rated as a 5 gallon, with gravel, decorations and a inch and a half "gap" between rim and water you're looking at about 4 gallons...a bit too small for multiples of fish but perfect for a easy to care for betta fish. Cons: Well, it's an acrylic tank...yup, I scratched it within the first 2 weeks. I recommend this tank to anyone who wants a good looking tank and cares about the quality of their fish pet's life. This is proper aquarium set up made easy.
Something the owner can do to dampen any vibration from the motor bumping against the back of the tank. Attach the bottom suction cup as instructed. Next place another suction cup on the bottom suction cup in reverse so that the two flat surfaces stick together. This should provide enough of a buffer to prevent the motor housing from rubbing against the aquarium wall. It may take some experimenting to find a suction cup that will do the job. I have owned two of the 3 gallon size crescents and 2 of the 5 gallon crescents for about 3 years and this modification has worked for all tanks and made them really quiet. I especially like the Internal filters that came with these tanks because the water flow can be controlled down to practically a trickle. Great for Betta fish. The whisper medium size filters also allow for using many different kinds of media and they are available in 12 pack boxes as well. Tetra is a great company with great customer service. Just be sure to save your receipt in case you have any problems. Thanks Tetra for all the things you do to make the aquarium hobby available and affordable for people.
A 3 gallon tank kit for $80 is certainly not worth it. Plus the facts on the box are poor. You should NEVER put goldfish in a tank under 10 gallons. If you do they'll be cramped and most likely stunted. They'll also not have enough oxygen. Now tropical fish. It's barley suitable for even a couple small fish. The minimum tank size for a few small fish is 5 gallons, and even a couple large you need about 20 gallons. Tetra products are usually bad anyways, and all this kit has are Tetra products. Overall, this kit is NOT worth it. You could get a good quality 10 gallon kit for under this. I mean, I like the design an all, but if you don't have a lot of money I don't think it'll be worth just to buy this beautiful piece of garbage.
BEWARE you see this and think great, but no you will receive a tank with a black lid and the lights are inside the tank now and if you decide not to put the lights in then there are sharp plastic pieces that hang down that could harm your fish if they would jump and hit the lid. I love the clear acrylic lid, it is a much better look and also lets you keep a "clear' eye as to what is going on in the tank.
