I was so happy to get this particular potato masher. It is top quality - very sturdy and strong when mashing potatoes (not flimsy or bendable like my previous potato masher). One key feature I am pleased with is the collapsible design. This makes it easier to fit into my utensil drawer. The handle has a comfortable grip design. I'm absolutely pleased with this product. Two thumbs up!
I've never seen a masher that folds down like this. And it works nicely. My potato masher that I'd had for many years broke down and at first I thought I could just use my mixer. Then saw how the mixer changed the texture of the potatoes to too mushy- not for the better. This masher worked smoothly, strongly and gave mashed the potatoes the look and taste of freshly made - as they were. I'm really happy. It's good looking as well. I placed a pen next to it so you can see it's size.
This masher is very convenient to mash huge amount of potatoes quick and easy, you may also just do single plate but in my case I love hosting familiar dinner and this is the perfect solution for the ocasion. The handler is very comfortable to hold. Easy to clean and storage.
I absolutely love this potato masher! It feels really nice in your hand, and is made ergonomically correct. It is of excellent quality, and as long as you care for it properly, I can't imagine you'd ever need a new one. I like that it folds down for easier storage. (quick tip: you have to squeeze the sides to open and close it). It works well, and covers a large area for faster mashing. Works well on avocados as well when making quac. Overall, it's excellent. 10/10 would recommend!
Throughout the years I’ve had many different potato mashers. This one from Thyme & Table has quickly become my favorite of all time. It looks nice and is easy to use. Made of stainless steel, it’s heavy duty and there’s absolutely no bend to it. The circular mashing plate is 3 and half inches in diameter and it has a it has a nice curve making it easier to reach in the corners of bowls. The perforated holes on the mashing plate are the right size and the perfect distance apart. The non-slip handle has a plastic coating covering it. It is about 10 inches long, is very comfortable to hold in my hand and easy to maintain a good grip. My favorite aspect of it, is that the mashing plate folds. This makes it so easy to store in a drawer, but there is a hole on top of it so that I can put it on a hook if I want to. The color is a bluish green, is very pretty and would look nice out on display. Also, it is easy to clean by hand, but I’ve placed it several times on the top rack in the dishwasher and it still looks like new.
My only complaint is that the directions could have told how to pinch the sides together to get the head to collapse and uncollapse. It took a moment to figure that out, but once we did, the masher worked great. The picture I posted shows where to pinch. There are just two of us, so I don't usually cook a large quantity of potatoes at one time, I used it to mash both white and sweet potatoes, and it was easier than getting out the electric hand mixer - less to clean, and the masher went right onto the top rack of the dishwasher for cleaning. We like to buy a whole watermelon and smash part of it for the juice to mix into beverages and smoothies, and this worked well for that too. I imagine we will find other uses along the way. The collapsible design does mean less storage space is needed, and the grip handle is comfortable as advertised.
Like my review title says, I will never, EVER use anything but this awesome Thyme & Table potato masher to mash my potatoes. It made them unlike anything I’ve ever used before. They were fluffier for some reason than if I used a hand mixer. I know band mixers make the potatoes creamier, this hand held masher made them super fluffy and lightweight. It did make my hand start to hurt, but that’s only because I kept mashing to get all the lumps and to incorporate the heavy cream and butter thoroughly. Love the way it folds up to lay flat too!
This is a great addition to my kitchen tools. I don't use a masher often but it's good to have a nice one when you need it. The handle has a nice comfort grip. It stores well either upright in a canister or in a drawer. You squeeze the stainless arms in and you can collapse or set out the masher plate. It took me a minute to figure that out. There were no instructions. It stays strong in place folded or set out so no unwanted movement while working with it. It's designed well. The area with the small rivets need to be cleaned with a scrub brush to get the particles that stick. I use a dish washing brush. This is great for potatoes in different recipes. I've used it for avocado and beans in my homemade soup also. I used it yesterday to mash sweet potatoes with coconut milk and eggs to make a souffle. It's durable and built to last and I love the innovative collapsible design. The wide, sturdy, plate does a very good job.
Not teal color like pictured. Just a grayish blue color. Not ugly, but disappointing.
The Thyme & Table Stainless Steel Potato Masher has an innovative, folding design. We were excited to try it, as the finish on our tried & true standard zig-zag looking masher is TIRED and makes rust marks if left wet. My young son (see photo) tried mashing canned beans to make bean dip and found the round head ineffective. We finished the job with our old masher. Overall, for as nice as the folding feature is, the new masher doesn't do a better job than our old one. We prefer the open zig-zag design to the round head with holes, and I hope Thyme & Table considers making a folding masher with that design.
