We have used this GPS several times a week for the last year and have been completely thrilled with it. Be sure and download the updates online and you will always get to what you are trying to find. We are not high tech people and this has been very easy to use. We definitely recommend it!
This is a great GPS unit for the price, particularly if you are looking for text-to-speech functionality. You have to use the computer voices instead of the other voice options in order to get the text to speech. It would be neat if you could use the other voices too, but hey the price is great. I use the computer voice for street names when taking road trips or going to new cities or unfamilar places. If I'm using it to get to a new place around town I use the british voice because I'm pretty familiar with street names even if I've never been to the particular destination before.
My son recommended the Tom Tom one 130s, because he had one. I bought it and have used it quite a few times, I love it. It makes getting to any locations easy. No more trying to read a map. I also bought it because I am going on a trip to Pa, and I will be able to take it with me to use in a rental car, so I can find all the places I want to visit. I will definately recomend it to all of my friends.l
Excellent product, works well right out of the box, well worth the money. It has saved me from making many a wrong turn in my travels.
I got this GPS b/c I heard it was user friendly and b/c it announces the name of the street rather than just saying "turn right/left". So far I think this is a great GPS because it is very easy to use, the screen is big enough that I can see the map all the information is giving me and most impotantly the maps are up to date. I've driven through little towns and even there the roads are correct. I think this GPS is worth every penny.
My first trip with TomTom went great, I traveled over 2000 miles in one week and never got lost. I input the home and destination addresses as directed prior to my trip. When I plugged it into the outlet in my car, TomTom quickly mapped the route. TomTom shows you how many miles that you will be on each HWY, the expected time that you should arrive, how many MPHs that you are going, and the speed limit (not temporary road work speed). If you stop for a break, TomTom stops for a break and provides your new arrival time. My son needed to use the charger for his phone (it was the same size and served the purpose) and the battery life on the TomTom kept it going for over an hour. When the battery life was gone, the screen went blank. I plugged the adapter back in and TomTom found where i was at that time and I was able to continue without reloading any data. Driving through Nashville, TN is so confusing to me, but the TomTom gave me great directions, how soon I would need to turn, which direction to turn and which lane I needed. I had to change routes 3 or 4 times in this city, and that was important to me! I read that I can get map updates for TomTom by plugging it into my computer. I haven't done that yet, but it certainly will be important for my future adventures. Love It!
I love it! I am directionally challenged and was always afraid of driving out of my comfort zone before my husband bought me this for Christmas. Now I actually feel like I can go anywhere and know I won't get lost. I do recommend you update the maps though because of road construction.
We had expected that this product would say the street names, not just "turn left". Even though we downloaded the most recent maps it does not utilize the best routes. It was so frustrating that we turned it off and figured out our own way after it sent us in circles.
I wanted a GPS, since my husband has a Garmin GPS. This was cheaper and seemed to be compatible. My reviews are either "loved it" or "hated it". This is a "hated it". I sent it back. I am used to the programming on the Garmin, which is much more "user" friendly. I knew it was going to be different, but I found it frustrating. Especially, driving down the road and there is no "BACK" button, like on the Garmin. My train of thought, was geared towards the garmin system, and Tom Tom was just NOT helpful. We sent it back, and purchased a Garmin 4.3 screen, text-to-speech, I think it was $160, and worth it. My parents are in their 70's and I didn't even want to give this to them, I'm going to give them a Garmin, it really is that much easier to understand. I like simplicity, and not confusion, while driving.
was fairly helpful in navigating me to the correct places, sent me on a couple wrong turns on some trips. not very user friendly. maps not always up to date. i do not recommend this product. after using it for 3 months it stopped working and does not turn on. will not buy another TomTom product. very unhappy with the results.
