This product is great, nice big screen, clear and very accurate. I set this thing up in a few mins and was able to start using it the same day. I love that it syches to your computer and LOVE the voice guided directions. This is like a mini tablet.
Excellent product at a reasonable price with maps, turn by turn directions with verbal street names, excellent guidance and Bluetooth.
My son was using the smaller TomTom, which we have had for years. He really likes this because of the bigger screen. Much easier to see and use than older, smaller version.
I had to contact TomTom.com in order to get instructions on how to remove the suction cup mounting that came attached to the back of the unit as I have a dashboard mount that was not compatible with this new unit. I previously had a TomTom XL 4.3" unit and I expected this unit to have the same mounting hardware. Had the ball socket on the back been made to accept a 0.675" in diameter ball instead of the 0.652" that it came with, everything would have been perfect. My TomTom XL had a snap ring mount molded onto the back of the case and if this new unit had one like this, then all TomTom units mounting hardware would be the same and simple to mount. I wanted to stay with the TomTom GPS units but it did cause me a lot of work modifying old parts until I could finally attached my dashboard mount. All well in the end.
So far, so good! Received my TomTom and are very happy with my purchase. Really like the bigger screen & the features are the same with my old VIA. The test will be when it's time to update maps. Other than that, I'm happy!
I used this gadget and I liked it. It has nice big screen with crisp colors and contrast. The free maps upgrade is a wonderful feature. GPS guidance is upto the mark with lane assistance and all other features that you could expect in a GPS. Recommend anyone to purchase it!
I purchased this TomTom, because about 5 years ago I bought a TomTom GO and the battery wouldn't keep a charge, even when plugged in. I'm pleased with the VIA 1605TM, although it isn't as accurate as my GO, and on my first use after stopping the car and turning it back on with the car charger plugged in, the VIA restarted in the middle of me driving, and it took several minutes for it to find another satellite signal. Overall I'm still pleased with it, and appreciate the traffic updates, that is a nice and convenient feature. The large screen size is nice; although, I would have liked it to have bluetooth and voice recognition. The only models that have that are smaller screen sizes.
When I first got it, I tried it around my town and it worked quite well, very accurate. Then I tried it for an address about 25 miles away. It lost GPS contact after the first 5 miles and then wouldn't give me a business address I wanted even though it was at a major intersection. It wanted to point me to a house that was about 2 miles from where I wanted to go. I finally got it to give me my location but it would not show my destination point. Twice, it changed the screen from the map to trying to locate a radio station. I have no idea why it did that. I do like the look of it and the lifetime maps is a great feature. I'm just disappointed in it's accuracy ! It's back in the original package and going back tomorrow !
Tried to update unit, computer said it was connected but software said it was not. Tom Tom web site maps are not up to date, It would not show a address that I have been to. Sent it back.
Spent 3 days, really 3 days trying to get maps reloaded. Even called tomtom support. Two hours later she tells me her system says my tomtom is loading, No it wasn't. So back it goes today. Be careful people you only have 15 day from date of receipt with Walmart to return so be sure to try to update your maps asap or you may be out of luck.
