This plane is totally awesome! Since my dad thinks the house is to small for a plane, i mostly fly it outside. I've flown it right into a tree, smashed it into a wall and let it fall from 15 feet and it is still truckin. It even got caught in my sisters hair! but once i got all the hair out of the propeller, it still flys perfectly! i definitely reccomend this plane to anybody who just wants to do some cool tricks and fly around and even land it!
My 9 year old son and I have a great time flying this around the family room. Control is great and tight right and left turns can be made after the plane is trimmed. Fly it at part throttle for maximum turning control. Our dog loves to chase the plane as it flies and comes running when he hears the motor start. You must keep it away from the dog, however, because though it won't be damaged when it crashes, it will be easily crushed if bitten or stepped on. Luckily, the control is so good, keeping it just out of reach is easy. This plane turned out to be a lot of fun we can enjoy when it's too windy outside to fly our larger R/C planes.
The title says it all. This plane ROCKS. It took me a couple of days to get used to the controls and I've probably crashed the thing a couple hundred times, but its still up and running err.. flying the plane plugs into the radiocontrol unit to charge, and only takes about 15-20 minutes to charge. The radiocontrol unit takes 4 AA batteries that for me, have not worn out despite ~2 plane charges a day for a week. This thing ROCKS!
The cyclone is one of the best out of the box Air Hogs planes. It is designed for indoor use and can be flown in a room as small as 10x10 once you get the hang of it. It does fly quite a bit different than other RC planes but with a little practice you can really do some neat stuff with it. I'm not sure how another reviewer managed to destroy theirs so fast, mine has been crashed into walls, floors and even a ceiling fan and is still in one piece. A few tips: Learn to fly it gracefully before giving it full throttle and doing stunts. Choose a larger room when you first try it out. When you are good you can remove the landing gear and it will fly longer and faster. Have fun!
I've tried several 'indoor' planes before, but this is the only one I've used that can truly be flown inside an AVERAGE sized room. It responds well to the controls in normal flight, but don't expect to be doing loops, rolls, or inverted flight like the description says (it only has throttle/rudder controls), on purpose. It will fly inverted or hover (never had it loop), but usually only on accident or if you throw it too hard, and it's uncontrollable during those maneuvers (but fun to watch). The battery life is good, by the time your ready to take a break from flying (5+ min), the battery is done too. The only negative of this cool product, is the fact it uses IR control signals instead of RF (sunlight and other lights can interrupt the control signal). So the maximum range of the Havoc Cyclone indoors in around 30ft (which is just fine). I took it to a school gym to get more room to fly, and probably because of the lighting in there, it only went 15ft before going out of range. Overall, I'd recommend this product to everyone. It is one of the cheapest, and the best product yet from Air Hogs!
This is truly a remarkable product of micro engineering. Loads of fun. 'Crashed' it into the wall almost a hundred times. Needs about a 14 x 14 room minimum for starters (at least the top half should be free of obstructions). I can't control well (its just me) but still have a blast. My daughter did much better. Because its IR (infrared) controlled, it doesn't work too well outside in the sunshine even if you chase it around with the IR a few feet away - its still quite fun. I recommend bending the tail a little to trim. I take it off and land it on a big table in an adjoining room. Flys in NO wind only - its very light.
Pretty fun little toy. Durable, relatively controllable after you learn how to fly it. The only problem I have found is that it is out of trim and constantly wants to turn right. Only large amounts of trim will fix it, but even then it still doesn't turn left very well. I imagine that not all of them will have this problem. For the money, you can't go wrong.
We got this for our son for a gift, and he loves it. It's a little more difficult to fly than other planes, and is for only inside the house, but once he got the hang of it, he has done pretty good at flying it. It's not meant for outside, as it is so light, and the lightest of winds will not let it fly correctly.
For kids and the kid in you, this is addictive. You might need to learn how to fly in open air or a large room and then switch to smaller room. It takes some practice to get used to making the turns and the landings. So far it has held well together in spite of multiple crash landings. It looks quiet flimsy and ready to break but for actual usage it has held together well. The IR remote is almost as good as RF control when used inside the house because it is powerful and the walls do a good job or reflecting the IR signals. I did not have to point the remote to the plane to control it. It is worth the money: More features such as A/C charging and a more stronger body as well as RF control are desirable but wont be possible to get at this price point.
This Air Hog could be fun if it would turn to the left ... at all. I worked on making adjustments on the controller per the instructions, but, I could not get the plane to turn to the left. I could not tell if this was due to the torque of the engine or a tail fin possibly being glued onto the unit incorrectly. You obviously need more than just a room in the home to fly this plane, you need access to a larger warehouse or something similar. I would not recommend this one in particular. I would, however, recommend trying the helicopters, especially the ones that can travel in the four different directions ... even though they are pricier.
