I've had this phone for almost a year now. It was my first Straight Talk phone and it's lasted this long without any problems. I really wanted a QWERTY keyboard and this one works great. I got the phone refurbished from the ST website for $20. After using it, I most definitely would pay full price for it. I got a hard case for it when it was fairly new (to me) and it seems to protect it pretty good. My husband got the same phone at the same time and he did not get a case for his. He's really rough on the phone and it's still holding up great. I know he's dropped it a few times and it has a couple scratches but works fine. I'm thinking of upgrading to the touch screen phone, not because there is anything wrong with this one but the touch screen looked cooler to me. But after reading those reviews I may just hold on to this one...
I brought this phone a couple a weeks ago because my other straight talk phone had a big long black crack in my screen. This is my first time having a slide key pad phone. I really like it. I can text faster then my other phone. The slide key pad is much better for me because i do alot of texting. I wanted to get the new aniond slide key pad with touch screen but it ran on a different network (Sprint). Well, im happy with this one. It runs on Verzion and never had any drop calls. My old one R355 runs on Verzion too. I know it dont have all the extra stuff on the phone. Its all good.
First thing's first, this phone is VERY durable and long-lasting. I've had it for two years (not exaggerating) and it's never broken or had any aesthetic issues. A few weeks ago I got mad and threw my phone to the floor pretty forcefully (yeah, not smart) and I picked it up... nothing broke/cracked/etc and it still fully functions. Yeah, the back of it came off and the battery fell out but it popped right back in and was perfect. If you want a long-lasting, quality phone then this is it. I also enjoy that the QWERTY keyboard has some space between each of the keys. Really helps me not "fat finger" anything. My only warning is that if you browse the internet on your phone you may want to consider elsewhere. I mainly use my phone strictly for texting, talking and taking pictures and for that functionality it's perfect but the internet is slow (and I have great service in my area) and drains the battery pretty quickly - not to scare anyone, the battery life is just fine otherwise =). I think my favorite part of this phone is that although it is a pre-paid phone it doesn't look like a pre-paid phone... if you know what I mean!
I have owned the R451C for almost 2 years and have been more than satisfied I have been amazed. The phone I have dropped more than once and the durability surprises me and it has all the features of the big money phones and NO CONTRACTS OR HIDDEN FEES, CONNECTIVITY CHARGES, SURCHARGES OR SCRATCH YOUR NOSE SURPRISE CHARGES. That is the greatest feature and I can have unlimited facebook, sports/ football scores with pictures and headlines, news and up to date weather reports. I was not a text person till I got this phone with the qwerty keyboard and now all I do is text. I can switch from the $45 to $30 if I do or don't plan to use more minutes and most of the time the $30 plan is enough. GREAT PHONE AND SERVICE! WOULD RECOMMEND TO MOMS AND DADS TOO, FOR THE KIDS. The only problem I found was the keyboard lock feature is too easy too operate and my phone sometimes calls people while in my pocket. takes great pictures but the ringer is very low for my deaf ears other than that its great!
This phone is now being replaced so the value is a little lower because of this fact. the newer phone is in stores and on the web now its a R455C. The R451C is a solid phone. I am very happy and happy with the keyboard. on the flip phones you have to press a key one or more times to find the number of letter you want to use. on this type phone you don't do that ...its got a keyboard. so if you do a lot of texting get a phone with a keyboard. i also like the fact on this phone you can remove the service end date from the main screen by selecting it in the menu. just gets in the way. no big deal. battery life is great. it will take a mini sd memory card. i understand the new model the keyboard automatically locks and on this one you decide when to lock the keyboard. uses Verizon. camera OK. use the larger samsung plug on the charger. mine just went out. the microphone quit working. i pulled out a spare phone and transferred the phone number to the spare phone using the straight talk website and got the spare running quickly. then called straight talk and they sent a a paid 2 day fedex mailer to me and i dropped it off at a fedex drop box and it took two days to get back to straight talk and i am now waiting for my phone to come back in a few days. easy and great service. i have really used this phone.
Overall, the phone is nice. The only problem is, the phone ringer and text alert are not very loud, even set on high.
I have several friends with this exact phone and plan and they all love it. When I found out that if I buy a CDMA mode phone I would still keep using Verizon network I was previously using I was sold. First off, activating the phone and switching my phone number could not have been much easier. I call Straight Talk and 20 minutes later, it was complete. I love using the Verizon network as I always have a great connection. However that is where my praise ends. The phone itself is lacking the same quality that I am used to with my previous phones. When I make a call, I hear a lot of crackling that I did not have before with my old phone. The ring volume is only about 60% as loud as my previous LG phone. When I use the speakerphone, there is a lot of rattle noise in the speaker. The internet menus are old school quality from what I am use to with my old LG phone, I guess I was spoiled by Verizon. You will also have a very hard time finding any phone specific accessories for this phone beside chargers in your local store. Checking your usage is not easy as it should be either. I do like the keyboard, even though I am not one to text much. I also like the display as I can read it without my reading glasses which I could not do with my older LG phone. I also loved not having a contract or having to pay an activation fee. I guess when you use a discount service provider such as Straight Talk, you get phones that are geared for a discount price market. Would I recommend this phone and service? Yes! I love the fact that I can still use the Verizon network without paying their premium pricing. Straight Talk made switching over easy and quick. I just don't care for this Samsung phone, to be honest, I expect higher quality from them.
I've had my phone for almost a full year. It has worked very well even though I fell and landed on it the first week I had it. The phone part works fine, and it's great for texting. The camera is OK, but not that great compared to what most phone cameras will do. However, it has delivered some very nice pictures. The web browser is minimal, but OK for checking email. Overall, I'm very pleased with this phone.
I received the phone and it didnt work the serial number on the phone and the serial number on the activation card and package didnt match after 30 minutes on the phone with straight talk customer service. and no solution I ended up taking the phone to wal mart for a exchange. After I got new phone it set up fine..the service is great and you cant beat the value im very please with the phone overall..But the customer service needs improvement.
