Good Flip Phone

This is a function-limited handset that actually hides Android version 5 beneath a flip phone UI (don't get excited about the fact that it's using Android yet - there are caveats). If features a low-end quad core processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage with about 800MB available to the user. I tested the MicroSD card slot with a 32GB and 128GB card from which it was able to access MP3 audio files and MP4 videos. It doesn't offer an app store or a way to sideload .apk files (I tried and I looked around the Internet to see if there was a sneaky-on-the-sly way of adding capabilities to no avail). By default, it has an FM radio, music and video players, a file manager, and a web browser. There is no WiFi enabled though I suspect the phone's chipset has a wireless NIC that is turned off. If you want to browse the web, you will need to burn up data from your phone plan. Performance is snappy and I find the phone has lots of processing power for the tasks it was capable of performing. Physically, the phone is chunky and feels reassuringly stout. It is rather thick when closed, but much smaller than any modern smartphone. The hinges holding it together are solid. The camera takes adequate, but by no means amazing photos and video. Bluetooth worked well when paired with another smartphone and my PC. The screen can get bright enough to work outside in bright sunlight and dim enough for comfortable viewing in a dark or poorly lit room. However, there is no automatic brightness option so you'll need to dive into the settings to make adjustments as needed. The display's resolution is low, something like 240x320 pixels, but is adequate for its size and is sufficient for the few functions this phone ought to be expected to perform. Given the MP4 playback, I have watched several full-length movies on the tiny screen while traveling with it. Entering text for something like contact information or an appointment reminder in the calendar app was a bit frustrating since the phone doesn't include numbers and letters in the keypad setting meaning I had to switch modes if I wanted numeric values mixed with alphabetical letters. Since there is no memo pad program, this will mainly be an issue if you plan to do a lot of texting that has mixed character sets. Given the limited functionality, this is a good phone for a child that doesn't need or shouldn't be given access to an app library and various means of getting to Internet-based resources. It may also appeal to retro-seeker or people that find modern smartphones distracting or overwhelming. It doesn't crash and offers good standby battery life. Mine can easily last a week without needing a recharge or reboot, but keep in mind it made virtually no calls over that time and was largely sitting around powered on, but unused. Watching videos on the tiny screen (which won't auto rotate video to landscape mode) or playing back music will eat up power just as quickly as any average smartphone out there. Call quality was acceptable. People on the distant end I've called haven't complained about being unable to hear me and I had no problems hearing them. The speaker (not the earpiece) fires out the back of the phone so if you're listening to music, viewing a video, or using the phone in speaker mode, you may have to drive the volume up and/or cup your hand around the back of the phone to hear things clearly. At high volumes, the speaker doesn't distort. It obviously lacks bass output and is mono only so don't expect stereo left and right channels on this thing. Stereo sound is available through the phone's headphone jack. Audio quality from it is good, free from static or distortion, and will give you the usual left and right stereo channels. Headphones are required for FM radio usage as the headphone wire will become your phone's radio antenna. I had no problems picking up multiple local stations with some cheap earbuds. I do wish it had a memo pad function of some sort and an e-mail app. I also would have found it useful if there was some sort of WiFi capability so I could browse the Internet without using 4G if there is an access point available like a home or in a coffee shop. However, as long as you understand you're getting a phone that is more geared toward just making voice calls, I think you'll be satisfied with what you're getting.

I like the idea of it being Free. Thanks. This is a standby phone in case my other phone is charging or low on minutes. I am not a constant talker or a media user..Perfect for older people. Young people..go for iphones and upgrades. Good standby phone..

I bought this phone because my other one got stolen. Guess I know why because the Tracfones that are coming out now are trash. The no contract that they had before was great. But now they are just useless because they keep your minutes hidden and how long your service is. You have to text them to figure it out. The old Tracfone's didn't do that they told you how much you spent how much you had left on your time before you needed a re-fill. Had this Tracfone for 2 weeks. Its out of minutes go figure. My old tracfone lasted 5 months before re-filling.

Bought for mom and anyone we called could not hear what was said it was all garbled. took back and got another one because that was all they had in a flip phone. It was the same the only way it worked was to use speaker and we don't like using speaker so everyone hears what you and everyone else says. It is annoying.

This phone has a multiple problems so I shall list them. 1. Open phone is too long to be used properly. I must fold the phone about 90° in order for my mouth and ear to connect to the appropriate places. 2. It is designed like a smartphone yet doesn't have any more functionality than a regular flip phone. In fact the smartphone programming only makes it more complicated and less useful. 3. Many of the functions don't work is they're designed. a. The "Abc" programming mode for texting will not stay programmed. Once you hit a punctuation the programming reverts to "abc" mode. b. It doesn't always show the bubble containing text that you last sent out. So you're not sure whether it was really sent out or not. c. I like a flip phone because I can put it in my pocket and not hit any buttons. However, on this phone you can. The volume control evidently puts in a bunch of pluses and a different screen. So when you flip open your phone it's all ready to a non home screen with a line of plusses.

We bought this flip-phone as a replacement with a bit of reservation as some of the views spoke of auditory issues on both ends of the connection. We've experienced this, as well. With nearly every call in the past two weeks, even though I speak loudly and clearly, the person on the other end has told me at least once that I was breaking up. The reconditioned standards simply need to be raised for this to be a worthwhile purchase.

My husband and I had LG flip phones for several years and were very pleased with them. We only need basic cell phones. His was getting old, so I bought the ZTE to replace it. It is horrible. Not at all user friendly. Hard to go from screen to screen but worse-horrible sound. Echos, garbled. Switched back to the old LG and lost 1400 minutes!! Keep getting the same story about switching from a "smart" phone back-this is not a smart phone!!! Seems the flip phones are getting phased out.........too bad as we have been very satisfied with our LG models.....

Lacks Too Much

I bought this phone when I couldn't find my old cell phone that I paid less for. I do not like this phone. People can barely hear me on it. I have to go by the front door at work so the phone works at all. This means no privacy. It doesn't let me add time and doesn't show the minutes left. It doesn't left me set a speed dial. It doesn't let me automatically dial a number. I have no idea how to text on either one of them. Texting is not user friendly at all. It's a very stupid set-up. I hope I find my old phone.

Poor Speaker I can't hear the phone call

I bought this phone thinking that I was going to simplify my life. I don't use data on my phone so I don't need a smart phone. It is a nightmare to load contacts. Unless you don't make many calls or have few contacts, I would not recommend this phone.
