Becoming friendly not friends with her students was one of her strengths; little did she know it would also lead to her total demise. Willow was expecting another one of those "Thank-God-It's-Friday" Fridays at work. It appeared to be just such a day until the last period. Tension between Willow and the school's administration had always been obvious, yet she couldn't stop her mind from racing when her principal materialized in the doorway of the English workroom and uttered the gut-wrenching, "Can I see you in my office?" In a conference room between two administrators, Willow thought she might as well be in hell. Suddenly, a note was dropped before her a note (sexual in nature) unaddressed and unsigned but bearing handwriting with a striking resemblance to hers. Hell couldn't compare to what she was about to endure. Earlier that same day Caine Blaise, a conventionally wayward student of Ms. Kincaid's, had been hauled out of detention on a drug suspicion. After being searched by the school's administration, Caine was found to have paraphernalia in his possession. The drug effects and a cell phone containing what appeared to be incriminating text messages from Ms. Kincaid were confiscated, but Caine refused to give answers. As the administration prepared to move him to a secure location for further questioning, Caine sprinted out of the main office and out of the school. With no car, no money, and no jacket, Caine braved the harsh December day, dodging a determined search party to make it to a pay phone a few miles away. Caine bummed some change and called Aidan Kincaid, who coincidentally is Willow's son. After running into a classmate while warming up inside a grocery store, Caine managed to get a ride to Aidan's job. Although infused with an anti-authority attitude a hundred times more stringent than his age, Aidan becomes the mediator extraordinaire of a volcanic catastrophe. He manages to save his friend from temporary disaster and resurrect his mother from emotional death. But, there's only so much a loving heart can do. Willow's nightmare had only just begun. She needed the help of the local education association and a team of attorneys after she was suspended from her teaching position, banned from school grounds and advised to refrain from all communication with any school related persons which meant just about every friend she had. Feeling guilty until proven innocent, it's all Willow can do to keep her life together as it begins to unravel throughout a year of destruction with all the earmarks of a witch hunt. Told from the points of view of the three people directly involved, Tragic Hero has the characteristics of a mystery - full of clues and evidence which invite the reader to decipher the truth. The numerous graphics throughout the book are engaging visual representations of credibility, and the nonfiction aspect should put the public on notice. However, more than any other classification, this story is a romance heartbreakingly shouting the tribulations endured in the name of love.
