Have to load software on every computer in network. After loading printer and scanner drivers both functions are available through server. Software can auto connect computer to printer on Windows boot up and auto disconnect once printer/scanner usage is completed.
Used with a router you can share a printer/scanner between 2 computers on a home network. Works great for my home office situation.
The software must be installed on all devices in order for the device to be found on the network. Computers and laptops are easy. Tablets and phones not so easy. Smart phones require another app to make it work. Even after installing software it does not always "Autoconnect".
