One of the hardest parts about hunting is transporting the meat bounty from remote places back home to feed your family. The long lasting tough cooler is up to the task.
This is a great cooler. Kept my drinks cold for 3 days on a canoeing trip. The ONLY DOWNFALL is there were NO STICKERS included with the cooler. Anything worth anything always comes with a sticker or two.
I bought this for a birthday present for my son who an outdoorsman
The amount of drinks this cooler can hold is incredible. The straps are extremely comfortable even with the cooler being half loaded. I have only got to use it once so far. It kept a 3lbs bag of ice for about a day and half in 70 degree weather so I imagine with the cooler being fully loaded with ice it would easily handle three days.
I took this cooler on a guided fishing trip and everyone on board LOVED it. Those with Yeti coolers wanted to trade for my Otter Box cooler because of the super wide mouth opening, the fact that its a back pack, the accessories on it/available and for the easy opening latch that can be opened with one hand. Great product!!!
I used this on a road trip and there were times I had to open and close it with one hand - EASY. It kept my food cold for 2 days (with lots of opening and closing). I look forward to using this on the beach and other road trips!
I took this cooler on a car camping trip, leaving on a Thursday and returning Sunday. There was still some ice left when we got home. It was around 90 degrees during the day and we were opening the cooler a few times a day. I'm completely happy with the product. The closure system takes a few tries to get comfortable with it, but is actually very easy to operate and effective.
I used this cooker 1 time and I can tell it's gonna be a good purchase. It held the ice pretty well for a day. I had about 28 12 Oz bottles of water that fit with the ice in there. The size is a bit deceptive. It only works if you fill the cooler to the line indicated. If you go beyond that line it won't seal properly. The backpack straps are super comfy and made transporting it a breeze. I got a lot of curious coworkers asking about it. I recommend buying one. I like how the bottom is made of rugged rubber kinda like a pickup truck bed liner.
I was looking for a soft backpack style cooler. I searched the internet and OtterBox coolers were always at the top of the list and I didn't even know they made them. I pulled the trigger and took this cooler to Sandestin FL this past week. Amazing. It was perfect. I would load the cooler in the morning and take the short hike to the beach. It was the hit of the beach. No one had see this before. All the guys would come up and want to check it out. I was like a proud papa. The one hand opening design was unbelievable. One of the beach chair/umbrella guys came to check on me and said all of them saw it and were talking about it. Awesome. Attachment ideas: Bluetooth speaker holder Phone holder And lastly, the "Otter" logo on the bottom makes a very cool impression in the sugar white sand of Destin Fl.
I purchased this product after a pretty exhaustive search just prior to our annual family beach trip. My selection criteria was simple. Portability was absolutely necessary, ease of access was critical with the ability to keep ice for longer than 24 hours a minimum standard. I have used this cooler for the past 2 weeks on almost a daily basis. The temperatures at the beach were in the 90's and the cooler sat in the sun each day. Portability: On paper, this product was most appealing given the ability to carry as a back pack. Day one I filled the cooler with about 20 bottles of beverages, ice and a few snacks until the cooler was completely full. I'm a big guy and found that the cooler was pretty heavy yet getting it on was easy. The straps were wide and comfortable and provided appropriate grip on the shoulders. The depth of the cooler meant that is sat on the hips which helped burden the load. If you have a need to carry the cooler any distance this configuration is optimal. My daily trip to the beach consisted of an elevator, stairs, pavement, brick sidewalk, long wooden dock and 100+ yards of sand. A rolling cooler would be limited in the sand and stairs, a simple strap cooler would have been a burden to carry. To wrap this up, the unit was very comfortable to carry but if you are on the weak side you may have trouble carrying this over a long distance on your back. Just be careful and keep working on those abs. Functionality: I have another back pack cooler that I've owned for about 2 years. The biggest problem from that brand was the narrow opening at the top and the rather narrow configuration of the inside. We often complained of having to fish out a beer or how the bag of limes settled to the bottom and you could never find it. I found that the Trooper very easy to load and to selectively unload. It has a very wide opening and a wide bottom which allowed for easy loading. There are 2 external pockets that are claimed to have some level of water resistance. I didn't test them out though I did rely on the smaller one for my phone and headphones and had no issues with sand or water ingress. The larger external pocket was not used as I didn't feel it would be able to expand enough to hold anything worthwhile. There are 2 hard points for attaching “accessories”. As of right now, there are only 2. A very large bottle opener which comes with the cooler and then an option to incorporate their “dry box” which I did not purchase. My 2 cents here…. That is a lot of surface area for a simple bottle opener. This accessory should include other functionality as well, maybe a detachable wine bottle opener and a D ring for keys? And I can only hope that the product line manager is considering a blue tooth speaker and or rechargeable battery that can be used to charge a phone on the 2nd hard point, and don't cheese out on the speaker, otherwise don't waste your time. Ice Management: This is an absolute must. The claim from Otterbox is that you can keep ice for 3 days. In my use I've not been able to replicate however you must load the unit per their recommendation for the proper ratio of ice to drinks. I will say that it kept everything very cold for 24 hours even though I skimped on the ice since I loaded with more drinks and food and didn't have room for a lot of ice. I'm pretty certain it will keep ice for quite a while if properly loaded. If there is one weak point I would have to say the closing mechanism. There is a learning curve to ensure you are properly closing with the minimum force necessary. We were always concerned we were putting too much pressure on that clasp and that if it broke the entire cooler would be rendered useless. I'm not certain if it can be replaced? Maybe I'm overly sensitive but we're pretty careful with it and it does not seem to be under stress when the cooler is being carried or just sitting. Only when closing could there be too much stress and potential breakage. Outside of that factor, I'm extremely pleased and this fits our needs at this time. If I were going to build a cooler it would likely look like this one.
