This is my third splitter and is the smallest one I've had at 27 ton, the others were a monster 50 ton and a 30 ton. After a short brake in I went for the hard stuff to see if I'd made a mistake with the smaller machine. Not so this thing took every thing I've throne at it so far with out a single stall. Green, dry, joint, notes and some 18X 38 red oak tree trunks. I sell fire wood for extra money so it does get a work out every time. I really like the horizontal 208 engine over the honda it is very stingy with fuel and easy to start. If I had any complaint it would be it needs a better IE wider longer log tray on the engine side, and center mounted hydro control. And by the way this the least expensive of all my past splitters. On a side note I do not use E 89 gas I go buy 90 octane marine gas for all my small engines. Anyway a big thumbs up for this machine.
This is my first log splitter and I am very pleased I bought this one. It starts easily on the first pull, splits large logs easily and is extremely well built. I highly recommend this splitter to anyone looking for a new log splitter.
I've had a 15 ton MTD splitter previously and had a very good experience with it, but I needed something much stronger after our 120 foot, 95-year-old black oak died and was cut down by professionals. The trunk is approximately three feet across, but this split is awesome. I got the model with the 208 cc engine and it starts first pull every time. Setting it up after it was delivered was easy. The one change I made was to purchase an adjustable front wheel assembly which makes everything easier. It's a bolt-on and doesn't cost much. Highly recommend all of it!
when i split hard wood that i need to keep my home warm all winter. i need to split a lot. this powerful machine not only splits with ease, it is fast!
I purchased the Troybilt TB 27 about 4 years ago online to split Kansas Hedge for my greenhouse wood burner. I burn about 10 cords of wood per year between the house and the greenhouse giving this machine a huge workout every year. Have never had a problem with any part of this machine. Splitting is easy and fairly quick. Handles all kinds and sizes of wood without problem. Even gnarly American Elm logs 24 inches in diameter are handled effectively. The Honda engine is easy starting and hard working. One thinfg to remember, do not leave this machine out in wet freezing weather. Moisture will collect around the pull start and freeze it solid.
The only thing I find wrong with this splitter is the log tray keeps stripping out of the frame. other wise it is a great machine starts on the first pull.

Kindling wood production is a snap. Good, clear directions and ready to go when it was delivered. Well balanced on frame - Heavily built. Would prefer a mid-return, intermediate stop for typical sized firewood rounds. Great machine!
First off, DO NOT lend this to friends or family. You may never get it back. Let them use a splitting mall for a while so they will appreciate how well this splitter actually works. You better have alot of wood to split, or another hobby, because it doesn't take long to split the wood you use to spend all day trying to split and haul. Enjoy!
Bought this log splitter have 60 to 70 hours on it at most and Detent valve quits working with no warranty on it better off with shopping other brand also have Troybilt power washer I purchased with less hours and the seals keep going out on bottom of motor leaking oil not a satisfied customer
