This product is great for all, especially those who have kids or just don't like dealing with charcoal. Everyone in my family has one. Works great & lasts long time. This is my 3rd. First one I lost in Hurricane Katrina, 2nd in Divorce.
This is a perfect grill for a condo balcony! I've used it for over a year cooking hotdogs, chicken, hamburgers, veggie, etc. If you don't think it gets hot enough, maybe you need to close the lid. And I've never tasted a metal flavor on my foods, but I did rinse it when I took it out of the box.
I am on my fourth grill now. Every time I move I get a new one and leave the old one behind. I use this grill all year round. It is an excellent choice to grill for three or four people family. Good for all kinds of meat and fish. Not perfect for a thick steak. One can cook corn and say hamburgers at once for four people. Easy to assemble, clean, use. Keep away from the rain though. I broke one when it got filled with rain water and left it for several days. Recommend for appartment and condo living, as well as for regular homes.
I found this on sale at WalMart for $20.00. Living in a condo I am not allowed to have charcoal or gas grill. I have only used this grill 2 times, once for chicken and once for veggies, but I love it. Just perfect for condo patio.
Super convenient, small-size efficient. Let me take you through every aspect of this grill since I've bought, used, and worn out several of these. I use this grill at least once per day on average, year round. It is an excellent choice to grill for one or two people, and it works equally well in subfreezing winter or hot summer weather. This grill is substantially the same as the EBT701W, an earlier model. Assembly is straightforward, and instructions are good enough. Electric grills like this one operate by controlling electric current through a heating element. Similar to an electric skillet, the temperature controller either sends current to the element, or it's off. There is no in between, so the effect is of a rising, then falling temperature as the controller cycles above and below its setpoint. Maximum temperature setting is 425 degrees on the dial, but an oven thermometer indicates this temperature is rarely reached. A sample of three controllers yielded maximum cooking temperatures between 365 - 395 degrees. Expect to grill at maximum temp just about all of the time. This grill will work fine for most meats like chicken, pork chops or tenderloin, burgers, thin beef steaks and vegetables, but it's not the best for a big thick steak. For thick steaks you need a higher temperature that will "sear" the steak quickly, and this grill will not provide it. Having said that, the modest maximum temperatures work in your favor much of the time. You'll find that this grill rarely "crispy critters" or burns your food as some gas grills are prone to do. It's a forgiving grill, it cooks slow and steady, so you won't be standing by it every minute. The Uniflame electric grill is difficult to use if set on the ground, much better on a table, or anything to raise it up to a more accessible height. The grill is designed to direct drippings toward a hole in the bottom and into a small drip pan underneath, which must be emptied periodically. However all of the drippings will not reach the drip pan, and eventually will begin leaking down the bottom and legs of the grill, as well as forming a sludge in the bottom of the grill that will not burn off. A newspaper or catchpan underneath the grill will help to keep the area around the grill clean. Sludge and charred food remains collecting in the bottom of the grill will eventually need to be cleaned out, a messy job, but if left unchecked the goop and ashes build up above the heating element and interfere with cooking (cooler). Occasionally, grease will arrange itself in the bottom suitably for the heating element to ignite a grease fire. This is not really a problem for the grill, just that you must either extinguish the fire or wait until it burns out on its own in 10-20 minutes before cooking. You may want to try using heavy duty aluminum foil to catch drippings, but the food will taste best when you let the drippings fall down into the heat and smoke just like other grills. In earlier 600 series grills, the heating element tended to burn out, but this is no longer a problem on this grill. The ultimate failure mode seems to be worn out contacts between the temperature controller and heating element contacts. But even with everyday grilling, lifetime is probably about a year and a half, maybe more. If limited lifetime seems a detraction, consider that the grill is inexpensive enough to simply be replaced, and is well worth the cost considering the convenience and inexpensive fuel (electricity). Note that there is no vent on the cover like many grills have. Since the heat does not depend on a fire, and thus oxygen, there really is no need for a vent. If you live in a place with regular or occasional burn bans, this flameless grill is invaluable. It is convenient to use electric power; no propane or charcoal to buy. Just plug it in and grill. Rain won't hurt the grill itself, but I'd keep the controller dry.
Cheaply made put serves the purpose for an quick use apartment grill. Not great for beef, better for chicken, vegatables, etc. If the lid is closed the grill will cycle on and off a lot.
I have to agree with the other 2 reviews. This item will only keep a high temp going if you leave the lid up but then you have to chase the animals away or brush off whatever the wind blew in. I thought the electric idea was great and would save money, I was wrong. Save your money and buy a bigger grill or get one with the small propane bottles. Buying new bottles is well worth it. Too bad I can't take it back, I'd be first in line.
Unfortunately where I live you cannot use a gas grill. There are only a couple of Electric grills to choose from, and this one seemed to take up the least amount of room. The problem is the grill goes on and off & does not maintain it's temperature, which is not high to begin with. With that said--it takes forever to cook a mere burger. With all the condo's and co-ops in the immediate area & the restrictions that go along with them--I wish someone would come out with a great outdoor table top electric grill with heating power....this one just doesn't cut it. I should have returned it last year--don't waste your money!
This grill was very cheaply made using flimsy materials. When we took it out of the box, the food grate enamel coating was peeling off, and it looked like someone touched up scratches on the exterior blue lid with a black magicmarker. The lid did not fit down on the grill properly and the electric port was loose and located in the front of the grill (inconvenient location). We bought this grill with the intent of using it camping. We tried it out one time at home and will not be using it again. It took approx 30 mins to warm a hotdog on its highest temp setting. Our burgers took almost twice as long and tasted baked - not grilled. My suggestion would be to save your money, because this purchase is a complete waste.
Like the saying goes "you get what you pay for." I would not recommend this product to anyone. I used it once and it had a nasty metal flavor it left in the meat, so I scrubbed it and let it run on 450 for about 15 more mins for the second time and gave it another shot. Once again, the nasty metal flavor in the meat was there again. Next step, I through it away! This time I will buy a full size grill because with this you are just wasting money. So if someone wants to through money away I am open to taking the money from you.
