It has a strong magnet. It stays where you put it. I have two on my inside porch door. It's really nice for my fuel oil guy to clip my bill to. My mother has also left me notes clipped to them. She asked where I got them, so I got some for her too.
They are slightly smaller than expected, but are still strong enough to hold stuff on my fridge without much effort. We also use them in place of twist ties on some items in the kitchen.
