Full screen menu-driven like a smart phone. All the features you expect in a feature phone and a decent camera. The menus could be a little easier to navigate. Even locked, when I bend over it hits just the right spots to "butt-dial" someone. Battery lasts for days - another advantage of it NOT being a smart phone. Overall, it's a great phone for the price.
Have had it for 1 day so far. I like the smartphone-like screen and interface. Since it allows up to 32GB memory storage with optional MicroSD card, I was hoping I could use it to record and store decent video clips. This is where the unit falls WAY short. The resolution is a minimal 176x144 pixels and cannot be improved. Frame rate is 15fps (typical), aspect-ratio is 1.222; bit rate is ~100Kbps (lousy); codec format is MPEG-4 (.3g2); audio is 14Kbps at 8,000 Hz.; but the WORST thing is the time limit of 30 seconds max. Considering the terrible video quality of the image, maybe 30 seconds is all that's needed. The camera does well for shooting stills, but for videos it's useless. I've seen FAR better results from other mobile & smartphones. The Brightside is decent in its price range as a mobile phone, but as a media recording device it's very primitive.
I have only had this phone for a short time but it has been fun and sometimes frustrating. Though I was using an old clam shell type of phone, so this one was a nice upgrade. The aps are easy to use and the navigation on web -sites is awesome.
The Brightside Blue is a great phone based on sound, range, connection and software. The physical design misses the mark. Even with the pebble finish the phone is slippery and the buttons get pushed by accident. Except for that the phone is a job well done.
good phone for a good price. I recommend this product to a friend
This is a follow up to the u370 and Reality phones. Great qwerty slide-out keyboard, nice bright/clear screen with good touch response, and is wider than the previous two. Cons are only one home screen and cannot set wallpaper. Also cannot import photos from sd card from previous phone, not sure why. The standard grid wallpaper and color schemes picked by Samsung are a bit gaudy, but at least you can change font styles & ringtones. A good basic messaging phone. Can't say much for the aps and web access as I don't use those. Would recommend for calls & texting only.
They really tried to make this phone more of a cross between a basic phone with a smartphone feel, but they failed. The touchscreen wasn't terribly good or responsive, the keys, while raised, were too close together for my liking, and the UI wasn't intuitive. I liked it while I had it.
Just purchased this phone almost a week ago to replace my old flip phone. Charge the batter through the night and with very little use during the day it will be almost drained by night time. I do not have it on vibrate nor do I use any of the extras that it could do besides text and talk. I sent maybe 20 texts today and its down to only 2 dashes, made no phone calls. Going to try to get see if Walmart will help me out with it tomorrow.
This phone has caused me problems ever since the beginning. Sometimes when you have the device in your pocket, the screen unlocks and opens up apps you didn't want to open, such as Verizon Navigator (Which automatically starts talking to you and is annoying). Another problem I had was when the Samsung Brightside (Not very 'bright') turned on randomly in my pocket. I have a lock screen for when it turns back on, and there is an Emergency 911 button at the bottom. The screen felt my skin through my pants pocket and nearly dialed 911 on accident. Also, when the device is almost out of battery life, it beeps about twice every couple of minutes and you cannot turn off the beeping, which is embarrassing if you go into the movie theater and don't turn it off, because you expected the vibrate setting to be sufficient. Also, when you receive a text message and the Brightside is on vibrate, it vibrates 3 times. This can be a good thing, but the only negative is you cannot reduce the number of times it vibrates, you just have to deal with the 3. Another thing to consider while carrying this phone around with you is the clothes you wear. If you wear sweat pants, baggy clothes, or something smooth then there is a good chance the phone could slide out of your pocket when sitting down. The cover for the battery on the back of the device is so smooth it just slides out of your pants pocket with ease. I did purchase a phone case when I purchased the phone, and it was made of a hard plastic case with a silicon or rubber type of material covering it. That specific case is good at keeping the device in your pocket, but too good. That case sticks to the inside of your pocket so well that sometimes it requires two hands to get it out. Another negative is the main menu design. A fourth grader could have came up with a better design than that. The main menu just has different square buttons you can press that takes you to different apps, and there is nothing beautiful about the background. You only have a few choices for background colors, and they get boring after awhile. The best non-smartphone created by Samsung is definitely the Alias 2. If you are a person who cannot afford data plans or doesn't want to purchase a data plan, but you like to text a lot, then I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Samsung Alias 2, it's probably the best phone I have ever had. In fact, I urge Samsung to create an Alias 3, with a touch screen possibly. Every person who I know that has owned the Alias 2 loved it, and I want to re-activate mine as well.
This product has many cons. My phone does not charge anymore. And the buttons can be pushed easily which is terrible when your in a quiet setting because it tends to ll people and make a lot of noise.
