Needed a newer smart phone, but didn't need the latest $600-$700 versions. Asked around some, looked over a few reviews and decided to go with the Samsung S4, which was on sale for $149 at Walmart.com. Ordered the phone, got it same day at the local Wal-mart(which happened to have the same phone in stock at the store for $199-a savings of $50(every bit matters)at Walmart.com. I've had the phone now for a couple of weeks, order a Samsung S-View flip cover, and have had no problems. I love the phone and have enjoyed learning some of its functions. So far, it's been a great decision/purchase.
This is a great phone once you jump through a few hoops. I bought 2 of these online. If you get the Device Error Device Locked statement when you turn it on... Walmart did not scan it out of their system properly when shipped. As you see on the box top... it needs to be scanned out of their system before it can be activated with Verizon Prepaid or other carriers. You need to carry the box and phone in to a local Walmart Electronics/Wireless Dept. so they can issue a refund and then resell it to you and scan it as sold. This put it into their system and then scanned it out properly...removing the lock screen. Make sure you take the security strip out of the box under the activation and service guide before going into Walmart. It will set off the alarm as you enter. I turned mine on at the register before I left to make sure the screen had cleared to the Verizon Activation screen.
I love my new phone. I paid $159.00 for it 12/30/2017. The screen is very clear and large, (5"), the battery charge lasts about 3 days for me. The phone is user friendly and easy to use. The phone is very thin and I have arthritis in my fingers and was worried my grip might slip and I would drop it, so I did buy a cover for it at Walmart which helps me hold onto it. I am very pleased with the phone...also love the no contract price. I use a $45 Verizon refill card once a month which gives me internet, email, texting, and phone. Yes, I would recommend this phone to a friend.
I've had Galaxy phones off and on for the last 6 years. Actually, reasons for having to change phones was purely due to carrier issues. Now, in my opinion, I'm back with the best carrier and the best phone. I'll be the first to admit, that I don't use my phone to its full capacity. This is exactly why I don't need the S7 edge. I was so excited to see the S4 at the incredible price of $149, on Walmart. Com. With it's internal memory of 16gb and my 32gb external chip, I can't imagine running out of storage. Not all android phones are alike. This phone is very responsive. No lag in function. The S4 is a solid functioning phone. Forget all the hype or status of having the newest version of whatever brand. Thank you to Walmart. Com for making the whole purchase experience so easy. The only thing I would have done differently is, that I would have taken advantage of the in store pick up option. It took over a week for my phone to arrive via FedEx. Apparently, the Republican and Democratic Conventions interfered with shipping.
I bought this for my daughter as a graduation gift. She never really used a cell phone and had no care for them but since she is starting college, I wanted her to have something in case she needed to get in touch with me. I've got a contract phone through verizon and this prepaid phone is just as good as mine. The only exception is in certain areas, prepaid phones "roam" and can't make calls. At least this is how this one is and the phone my other daughter had also had this same issue. They could text but couldn't make calls. Aside from that issue, this phone is very good. the battery life is good, it accesses wi-fi easily, and sends messages as expected. Calls are very clear. I do recommend it.
The phone is what I expected. I wish Samsung would not preload so many apps taking up storage space. I purchased the phone for the 16gb of storage but after the preloaded apps, it's only around 8gb of storage. That's my only complaint. Otherwise, I love the phone.
Been doing Verizon prepaid for 3 years now. This is best reasonably price phone. Leaps and bounds over the Moto E and LG Inspire which both locked up. Phone was 50.00 less than in the store and they had Otter box case for only 15. Seems to pick up signal slightly better. Normally at my house 1 bar for 4g, now with the Galaxy S4 Im at 2 bars. Had for 1 month. No issues.
This would have been my first smart phone, but since the first time I turned it on it has gotten really hot. I never activated it before returning it but used it like a tablet, so I can't judge the call quality. It's running Android 5. It's lightweight and doesn't feel too durable but not too cheap either. After a few minutes of being on, doesn't matter what I'm doing on it, it gets really hot around the top half. All that heat's not too pleasant in the hand and especially not held up to my ear. I've tried disabling features which may have helped a little but it's still uncomfortably hot. I've read that a lot of people have heat issues with this phone and I was hoping I wouldn't be one of them. I've since tried out a cheaper phone that warms up in the same spot but is much more tolerable. I wanted to like this phone, but I couldn't get past the heat issue.
I purchased this phone thru Walmart. Com, a mistake I won't make again. The order does not come from Walmart, it is sent out from a 3rd party vendor so buyer beware! If there is a problem you can't just go to your local Walmart for help. I received the phone only to find out it was locked and therefore, I was not able to get it activated. I called the 3rd party vendor Incredible Cellular 5 times before I could get thru to them. Once I was able to do that, they didn't care about helping me with the problem, they just said send it back. So that's what I did and I'm now waiting for my credit card to be refunded. I needed a phone asap so I went to Target and bought one for less money. I wouldn't recommend ordering from Walmart.com to any of my friends. This wasn't the only problem I had with ordering from them, but it WILL be the LAST!
This device cannot be used with any other existing Verizon plan which is not made clear in the description. I thought I was buying a phone, not a plan. The "plan" which came with the phone was $45/mnth which was considerably more than what I was paying but didn't know I'd be obligated to that higher price until I tried to activate the phone. If you only need a phone, keep shopping.
