Recieved in a timely fashion. Packaged well with all parts accounted for. Nice instruction book. All set up and ready to go. Appears well built. Functions as advertised.
Seems to be well built, compact, light weight and plenty of settings to choose from. I just got the radio and am going to use it for the first time tomorrow so I can not attest to how it works but from my garage I can hear tugs and coast guard and ships. I'm about 5 miles from the water. So it does seem to be working fine.
Good solid piece of equipment. I retired not so long ago and I fish a lot in my 15 foot Bayliner Capri. Since I go out by myself now my wife insisted on 3 things. A bright yellow fishing vest, Orange cap and a brand new VHF with Mic/spkr capability. All three work great. PS. I did drop the radio in the water a couple of times and it seemed to be water tight. It was only in for a couple of seconds though.
I’m disappointed it didn’t come with the back up battery pack like the others do when I went to purchase it after I received my radio the shipping was as much as the unit. I think it should’ve been either included with the radio water. It should’ve been asked if I wanted a back up battery pack
It is a great radio but the Spring Loaded Belt Clip corrodes so easily. I have mine secure to my life vest while ocean kayaking, if it wasnt because I had a lanyard to my body, I could have easily lost the radio. Cant believe something is made to be in water that corrodes not even 10 months after purchase.
The radio itself is great,BUT they advertise that AA batteries can be used, but they don't include the battery tray needed to use them and it is UNAVAILABLE. Also, no spare rechargeable batteries are available either. So, you are stuck if your radio's rechargeable batteries run out. THERE ARE NO EXTRAS AVAILABLE! Also, to charge the radio you must use the entire charging base plus the charging wire. So, not only do you have to bring along the wire, you also have to lug around the charging base. DON'T BUY THIS PARTICULAR UNIT until, and if, the necessary accessories become available.
The volume is ridiculous - you have to pull the radio up to your ear like a phone in order to hear the person on the other end, rendering them useless for our needs. If you’re hard of hearing you won’t be able to hear the person on the other end unless there’s 0 Background noise
I purchased the previous model, the HH330. The battery finally gave out, and I contacted Cobra only to find that they no longer provide replacement batteries for this model. The radio worked just fine when the battery was chargeable, but as all rechargeable eventually are unable to take a charge, they become useless. So, I'm throwing away a perfectly good Marine Radio. I know 130 bucks isn't a ton of money for a radio, but in this age of sustainable resource recovery, still seems like a waste. I typically refrain from any negative reviews, but felt this should be said.
Bought the handheld through the marina I belong to last summer to simply use for communication with the marina for boat launching service as well as the emergency feature. Radio worked great for about 8 months. All of a sudden it quits communicating and then completely stops. Simply gave it a 1 star rating since it didn't last a year. Keep it a home after boating and then in the glove box during boating. Still waiting on the warranty claim Return Authorization Number. Been 2 weeks since I sent through the warranty request for the number.
This WILL NOT work anywhere over 1 mile (description is WAY off) ...find something different. Tested in several different scenarios. Customer support BS atmospheric conditions. NOT happy. Has lots of features but, I can yell that far.
