This is the second one I purchased. I mounted them on the front and rear of my Gold Wing . Takes a pretty good video while riding. Does not cost anything if you don't get good shot of the scenery or friends. Just delete and use them on next trip.
This is a great starter camera, it has all the accessories you need. It is not a Go Pro, but still takes great pictures, has good sound, easy to use for the amateur. I bought this for my husband and wasn't sure whether he would get into using it, but he wear the thing on his helmet all the time, so I guess he likes it. Now if only they make a better app for the phone so you can play it back.
The camera works good. It works best in daylight or good indoor light. Tried it underwater, no leaks good picture. Great value.
This camera seems to be easy to use so far for an inexperienced user.
I bought this for my 13 year old grandchild. She hasn't had it for long, but so far she really likes it. It is small, but it would have to be to attach to a hat (so that movies can be made while she's riding her bike), and to fit inside the waterproof (to 30 feet) clear wraparound. It doesn't come with a memory built in so I supplied an 8 gig. card for it. That should give her room for plenty of photos and some movies. If anything changes, I'll write more later, but for now. this appears to be just what the doctor ordered at a great price.
Mounted this camera on my motorcycle the first morning after charging Captured a 30 minute ride. Came back and loaded video to computer. HD video is as good as go pro. Audio Is a little rough seemed to pick up a lot of engine noise. But otherwise perfect for my needs. I told 5 people that I ride with and they ordered theirs the next day.
A good camera for the price, plus extras
works well, basic, nothing fancy. 3 mounts included for car, bike and helmet. Water box for underwater filming. very cool.
I have purchased both the Vivitar DVR 785 and DVR 787 models and would recommend you spend the extra ~$20 for the 787 unless you have a very specific need for which the 785 is sufficient. The 787 provides higher resolution (1080 lines vs 720 lines), additional mounting options, a remote control and the option of using auxiliary power (5V USB) from your car or computer. Both provide pretty good imagery, much better than many similarly priced cameras I have seen although I doubt it is quite as good as the expensive "premium" brands. The 787 serves well when operated as a dashboard camera. It provides nighttime imagery that shows the headlamp illuminated road ahead although it is dazzled by oncoming cars (no consumer camera has the dynamic range to capture that lighting contrast ratio). The 785 will not operate under auxiliary power (even though it comes with mounts for your car) but ran for almost 2 hours with a freshly charged battery in the car mode (sequential 3-5 minute segments, automatically overwriting oldest when memory card is filled, about 10 min/GB for full HD). The 787 turns on & off automatically with the aux power supply. Both are small, lightweight and of robust construction. The 785 uses a secure snap-on cradle to provide a 1/4-20 tripod mounting socket while the 787 has the socket in its base. Both also have plastic water-tight compartments as a option (the 787 claims it's good to 30 feet). The sport mounts all use a 1/4-20 machine-screw tripod type attachment. There are options for mounting to bikes, helmets, windshields, dashboards and even surfboards. The sport mounts will work with either camera and many other lightweight cameras. The water-tight compartments are model specific. Optics are adequate with barrel distortion toward the edges of the frame and some chromatic aberration. You can read a license plate from ~ 25 feet or more (on axis). The camera's field of view is about 90 degrees.
I'm being harsh....what can you expect for $30? The attachments for handle bar and helmet are well made; The hinge on the waterproof housing broke when I opened it. Picture quality is not bad. Battery life is short, about 45 minutes. That would be ok if it would operate while on the charger but it doesn't. So if you record your ride, it had better be a short one.
