Good product

I've had this installed in my PC for only about a week, and the install process was easy. I'm using this as addational storage, so no OS install was required. The only thing I had to do was format the drive using Disk Management (under Windows Tools/Computer Management). I've never had a problem with WD bare internal drives and expect this one to be no different. So far, so good.

Ordered The WD Black 2TB as a replacement drive in a 3 year old Dell XPS 9100. Install was a breeze, however there are no mounting screws with the drive, so if you plan to use it as a second drive, find your own screws. Used the Acronis True Image software from WD, The transfer took about 20 minutes, and I was up and running with a new hard drive. So far no issues.

When I want a HARD drive WD Black is what I want.

I want my hard disk drives to last!! That's why I buy WD Black. I have 3 WD Black on my used shelf, the only reason they were replaced ( long pass the 5 years) was I needed disk drives that could store more date (larger disk). I would show it but it is already mounted in my desktop. I have only been working with disk and computers for 50 years.

WD Black drives are terrific for backups

As my computer's internal storage grows, I need larger backup drives. The Black series WD drives are great for that purpose. Over time, I put the smaller drives inside my computer case and as the prices go down, I buy larger backup drives. These drives are great for making forensics clones/copies as well.

For over twenty years I have only bought Western Digital, as a system builder, it has always been the most reliable, and I will continue to purchase WD.

Too Hot

This is the hottest (temperature) hard drive I have ever used. I am a programmer for a fortune 500 company. I have dealt with thousands of hard drive, SSDs, and NVME. This is the hottest drive I ever dealt with. You cannot touch it. I have left the side off my just built own PC because I don't know if my cooling solution(s) can handle the extra calories of heat.

Unfortunately, the drive arrived to me DOA. I was unable to receive a replacement drive. The online chat as friendly as they were, did not have a solution to my issue. In the end, I opted to return the drive for a refund. I hope WD can improve on catching these bad drives before shipping.

Disappointed

Reviewed in the USA on 2022-03-23T17:00:00

Was shipped with very little packing materials which is very disappointing considering how large Western Digital is. And after only 167 hours the drive is now making noise loud enough to be heard over my computer fans. Before this though the drive was great, it's fast and WAS silent.

DOA
(1)
Reviewed in the USA on 2024-04-16T17:00:00

This drive was DOA, had a loud chirping sound on boot-up, which designates a failed drive. It seems to be a common issue on all these newer WD Black HDD. I guess the reliability of these have really gone a lot lower than how the use to be in the past. I sent it back and ordered the Seagate FireCuda 7200 RPM 8TB drive for roughly the same cost of this 4TB WD Black. I think for the first time, Seagate is now making more reliable drives, but these WD Black's are no longer my choice for reliability. Simple as that.
