I received my EX4100 very fast. I unpacked and when I was initializing, I had a "bad" drive right off the bat. Called tech support and they were great! Got me up and running within minutes and assisted me in finalizing my setup. So far everything has worked perfectly. It is very fast and I love the fact I can access all my files from anywhere through the internet. Couldn't be happier. Highly recommend!
I purchased this because a family member had over 30,000 pictures and videos on her iphone. These are backed up in icloud, however, they cannot be deleted from her phone without being deleted from icloud. We did the Google Photos thing as well. The problem with all these cloud services is that we are dependent on the providers to maintain services and keep our pictures private. They cannot guarantee either of those. It took some time for the My Cloud Expert Series EX4100 to back up her phone because of our home internet speed and the fact that there were over 30,000 files to upload. We have successfully uploaded all those photos and videos. It was a quick and easy install as well. Anyone with just a little tech savvy can do this. We are so excited now. All her photos and videos are safe and secure in a place that we manage. We are now in the process of uploading digital photos and videos from previous phones and devices. We are able to access the photos and videos from anywhere. We can also disconnect our pictures from the web at any time. This product has brought peace of mind to my home.
Pros: 24-T in RAID 5, rated at 110 MBps read/write speeds and video playback, best price point for me (got mine at $1,295 price) Cons: None, but if this is your first NAS, it will take a bit of online reading to make sure you set it up right for your network configuration (beyond the default settings) Other thoughts: Everything worked from the get-go, but initially I wasn't getting file transfer speeds I had hoped for. Took forever to transfer multiple video/music directories. You need to check that your router and any switches are rated for Gigabit speed (1000 mbps or 125 MBps). My router was fine but I had this initially connected to home network/ethernet via a 10/100 switch and that was the problem - only getting 7 - 9 mbps or 1.1 MBps transfers... Ordered a couple of new/cheap TP-LINK TL-SG108 8-Port Gigabit switches from Amazon Prime and now getting around 80 to 90 MBps transfers copying files to the NAS from different computers, even while remoting in to the source computer. The MyCloud web interface was very easy to access/use and has plenty of options to set up your users, media folders, etc., as well as configure device access from the network and cloud. And the PLEX media server works great once you get it set up. I recommend installing the Plex server on a separate stand-alone computer for the transcoding. The NAS can do it but it doesn't have the horsepower or memory to stream multiple items at the same time and could bog down. I installed it on a relatively fast older CPU that had a decent video card. I also have an old Midnight XBMC box that I might also try as a server, just haven't had time to check that out. This is the set up I've been wanting for years - finally got all my media in one location instead of scattered across 10 networked drives on different computers. All in all, this unit should do me for many years to come and all of my data is backed up as well. No complaints.
This is the second My Cloud I have owned. My original one was just too small so I upgraded. Am very happy with these devices. They are reliable and have all the features I need.
A More Powerful NAS. I had a 2 bay 12 TB WD and one of the storage bays heated up and faulted. So I purchased the EX 4100.
Pretty good for a WD, even for a small business. Does most of what I purchased it for could use some more apps. would recommend. Easy to use, pretty fast so far. small and easy to tuck away.
