I bought the unpopulated version and added several 4TB drives I had on hand. I've had the unit for over 8 years and have not had a lick of trouble. Only once did I get concerned because the drives / fan ran continually for a couple hours. I've needed to reboot it twice to fix problems win10 was having with it. Upgrading from OS3 to OS5 was a snap. I just wish I could load KODI onto it as PLEX and the WD Media app leave a lot to be desired. And I wish it had cost less for just the enclosure.
I just recently received a new EX4100 16 TB NAS. As i currently own a EX4 NAS which is very similar to the EX4100 thus making the setup very easy and quick. I use the NAS a a backup device for 6 pc's. The new unit is considerably faster. The EX4100 allows me to schedule a regular backup on all pc's in a "set it and forget it" manner. Very convenient and time saving. It is a very nice place for fifty+ years of pictures.
I had the previous version for about 9 years without any real issues. This one seems to work well and a bit faster. The OS5 app works perfect too.
great upgrade easy install to replace obsolete mycloud, took old drives and installed in new and running as before with better software back up options
I do have experience with some other WD network drives, but not this one. I literally had this set up and working in about 10 minutes. The admin interface seems to have been improved in a few areas and I found it intuitive and most of the decisions were self-evident. I was looking for a drive array that has some expansibility and this looks like the right one, although I won't really know that until some time in the futre.
This is my 2nd EX4100, I bought the 1st one in August, 2015. The first one failed once in 5 years, after diagnosing disk 3 the error cleared and has been working fine ever since. Never lost any data, the EX4100 pro has a faster Ethernet but I don't require the extra speed.
I have read reviews and a lot of them say the WD Drives are not easy to set up and I would agree. I am still in the process and have two other WD Drives, but it is not intuitive at all. Once I got the others setup I was pleased, but I hate to buy something and then have to research and watch videos when a functional wizard would be great.
HDD installation and initial startup went fine , but I am unable to add accounts other than the Admin. Any invites sent to other users fail. Even though I send the invite via e-mail, when they click the link they get an error message saying their request to join is rejected by admin.
I used this MyCloud for over a year. And setup 4 shares. (customers, media, backup, storage) I removed "storage" and it deleted the customers folder. yes, after it asked twice "are you sure you want to delete STORAGE" Tech support was no help. apparently it's a common problem. I demonstrated this to tech support. made a new share "NEW-SHARE" picked delete NEW-SHARE and my MEDIA folder vanished. Tech support was like "Oops Sorry , hope you had backups" =( That's the sole reason I bought this ..was to have backups.
Took too long to ship out product. Received a bad unit and they weren't able to replace fast enough so just requested a refund and purchased elsewhere.
