The WD mini NAS concept works for my home with new Macs, old Macs, new Windows 7 &10 and old Windows XP believe it or not. While I've had to live through some tough times with the MyCloud software on the Mac laptop the IOS device app works great from day one and still does. I will buy another one for sure.
I purchased this because I didn't like google photos to have my pictures. After you get so many they charge a higher fee for storage. I would rather have me photos on my Own home cloud. And you can buy what ever size you Need which is great. I love it!
Very easy to set up. However I would like to be able to set up a second level security verification when signing in.
It was easy to set up and worked, but I eventually found out that it would not work with Acronis True Image backup software. Partly my fault because I didn't ask the right questions before purchase, and I eventually was shown the page where that limitation was revealed, but it isn't in the upfront description.
My Cloud Home literally takes less than 5 minutes to install by anyone with the absolute minimal knowledge of networking (Zero knowledge of networking mabe takes 6 minutes to install this thing). Mobile interface is great and pretty much flawless ( I have only tried it on my Android devices as I generally don't like fiddling with my apple devices and new products...but that is just my bias against iOS). I have however been flustered with the PC Desktop app on W10. It absolutely refuses to be installed (crashes half way through the install and says "installation failed...Try again!"... When I check WD support pages, I see a lot of complaints about this and WD res[ponse is generally a long rap sheet of "how windows 10 should be set before you can install the app"....Why not make an app that works with ALL versions of W10?. They say it has to be a 064bit W10...which mine is, but then support says "oh, but it has to be a 64 bit Win10 "S" version":-) What on earth is a w10 "S" version and why does it have to be a "S" bversion, needless to say that there is at least another 10 other requirements before the desktop app can be installed. Very frustrating when you consider that the android app for it installs and is ready to run before you can spell Western Digital:-) FIX the desktop app and you have yourselves a BIG WINNER here.....and oh, why can't I easily "MAP" it as a network drive, without having to have a PhD in computer sciences, anyway? Answer that WD:-)
My cloud home does't work on my new Mac Pro with Big Sur when WD says that supports both.
I am very unhappy with the product, one day when your account tries to log in and says "something is wrong" and you cannot access your data, you will feel all the pain that I felt.
This product is one of the worst hardware ever purchased! Do not trust the look of this product neither the selling argument. The devise has many issues. It is a cloud devise - always needs internet and you cannot connect directly upload / download files even if it is within your network. Forget about it being a cloud storage area for pictures. pictures download the slowest compared to media files even if you manage to get the best 802.11/ac standard routers and connections with 800+ Mbps. This is one of the worst product / it inventions of WD. If you still decide to buy it, ask me i will offer mine for a decent rate.
I bought this after reading numerous opinions that it was iOS and MacOS friendly. Until you want to have a new M1 chip Mac. Then it amounts to a Time Machine disc. Because Western Digital has refused to offer an update, there's nothing I can do with it except that.
I bought this mainly because of the name. I've used WD drives for 30+ year. However, this product is just plain bad engineering and is cheap. Transfer speeds are sub par at about 5 MB/s. I've tried all of the tips on speeding this up and had no luck. After i purchased this, I found out that it cannot be connected directly to a computer. What the heck? This is crazy! So if I want to use this without internet I can't? This is a problem. When I set up the automatic backup of photos/videos from my phone it didn't put the files in folders like they are on my phone. It just put them all in one folder. Very disorganized. I will be taking this back to the store.
