I just bought another Weber 470 grill but this time for propane instead of natural gas because I had moved to an area without natural gas. There was no doubt in m mind with regard to buying another Weber grill. The quality is there and parts should you need to replace anything such as grill grids flavor bars are readily available. Absolutely love the searing burners for perfect grill marks on my steaks and pork chops. The smoker box is awesome especially with its own burner and the rotisserie works great for grilling chickens and pork loins. Great grill - will never own any other.
significantly easier to put together than i was anticipating. gorgeous grill with a ton of features. pricey, but worth every penny.
I purchased this S-470 grill on 04/24/2017 so, a little over 4 years later, my review: Following my own motto... "buy the right one the first time and you'll never have to buy it again" (motto created after buying the cheap ones) I bought this grill because I wanted a grill that was built tough and made to last. After 4+ years, it still works and looks like new and I grill weekly if not more often -- even in the winter when I have to shovel a path to the grill! I just keep it clean and covered when not in use and have had zero problems. Is it worth the extra $$$$ to buy a Summit grill? Yes! Hands down, the best grill I've ever owned and fully expect it will be a family heirloom after I'm gone - lol. My only wish is for attached, matching side cabinets so I could store all my grilling accessories. I guess I'll be making my own.
This is our 2nd one in 12 years. We grill all the time, in any season. Never disappoints.
We've had this S-420 for 12 years and it keeps on going! It came in a BIG box and was mostly assembled. I just bolted on the side tables, set up the cabinet and adjusted the doors and we were ready. The grill has worked well for years. Burgers, steaks, seafood, veggies - you name it. The side burner works well, but basically has one setting - boil. You have to keep track of what you have on the burner, because it will get heated up quickly. My favorite item for the burner is sautéed mushrooms! We added the rotisserie attachment (it was a separate item back then). Chickens and roasts turn out amazingly well with the rotisserie. The grill has held up well. The only items that have needed replacement have been the knobs, cracking about a year ago and the wheels were replaced a few months ago. I don't expect plastic to hold up over this length of time. I also added a second light, as the single light was not bright enough. This is great grill and when the time comes, it will be replaced with the 470. Assuming that time ever comes! Good job, Weber!
Just replaced a 10+ year old Summit S-470 with a new one and am getting used to the newer control knobs and higher heat capacity. I still prefer Weber over other grills. The grates and heat distribution as well as quality manufacturing is higher than others in its class. BE VERY CAREFUL!!! The 16GA (.0598) metal is very sharp! The area just underneath the control knobs, the control panel, is a safety hazard. After the first use, cleaning the control knobs with a paper towel, fingers were cut. (Think deep paper cut). If children come near and run their hands under the knobs, you could have a serious liability issue. Metal measuring gauge was procured. Molding was carefully researched. Ended up purchasing on Amazon the "Trim-Lok Edge Trim – Flexible, PVC Plastic Edge Protector for Sharp and Rough Surfaces – Easy Install, Push-On Edge Guard for Cars, Boats, Machinery, and More – Fits 1/16” Edge, 7/16” Leg Length, Single Gripping Finger, 25' Length". Get the one with gripping finger to ensure that it stays on. This molding is metal reinforced. While you will not need all 25' of molding, the purchase is well worth not severing my fingers or the risk to others.
This is my third S-470 grill, only because of moving house, not because the previous ones wore out. The included features, durability, ease of use, low maintenance and reliability are fantastic. I considered a Genesis, which is rated higher by Consumer Reports, but decided to stick with the S-470 due to the rotisserie burner and smoke chamber, not available on Genesis. Also, the grate design on the 470 is more robust with larger diameter tubulars. I also like the built in rotisserie motor on the 470. My only issues (slight issues) are heat uniformity (slightly hotter on the right side), lack of electronic ignition (the 470 has push-and-turn ignition on each burner) and the push button light switch design for the burner knobs. The rubber weather protection for the switch only lasts a few years. It's impossible to find the perfect grill and all things considered, I definitely recommend this one.
I wanted to use the grill a few times before writing this review. The grill is awesome and I do not experience the flame ups normally experienced on the Weber Genesis. I really enjoy the smoke box. The grill cooks very well and my family has commented on how the food tastes a bit better. It is much easier to control the heat on this grill. It is also much easier and faster to clean. There are few items I am disappointed in. Gas valve to left of sear knob is hard to push in when during to light. It also requires the knob to be pulled out after lighting the burner to stop the lighting process. Knob is very rough when turned and does not move as freely as the others. Not sure how to correct this. I travel a lot and have not had time to reach out to your service department. The left door magnet was pushed into the door with just the corner of it still holding the magnet in place but it would not hold the door close. This was corrected by removing the bottom riveted trim panel, removing the magnetic holder from door and reinstalling. Trim panel was reinstalled. Doors are very crooked and could not be aligned with just sliding the doors in the bottom grooves. A washer had to be placed under the right door around the retaining pin to align it to the height of the other door. Both doors had to be slide to the far left to make them look symmetrical.
Bottom and left panels completely rusted out at six years old. My old gold c is 20 years old and still in good shape. Crazy for a grill that cost this much
It is very expensive but useless piece of junk. Knobs broke after 3 months, and you can not use it anymore.Knobs are out of stock everywhere, near to impossible to find them in Canada. There are some in US weber site but just read reviews there! You will need to buy them there every month! Find something else, without knobs it is just a garbage on your backyard.
