We looked for a good medium temperature sleeping bag at sport stores and finally settled on the Wenzel Santa Fe due to the equal quality of the more expensive bags at half of their prices. It is the best value for a good summer to early fall sleeping bag.
I bought this bag for my girlfriend because I wasn't sure how much she would like cold weather camping, and I was willing to carry the heft and size of the bag to ensure she kept warm enough. We camped near a waterfall and it got down to 20 degrees that night. We slept in a small tent and she slept with a silk bag liner, long underwear, socks, a hat, and a sweatshirt on inside the sleeping bag on a good sleeping pad. She didn't get cold at all for the entire night. I expect that she might have been a little uncomfortable without the extra clothes and the liner, but the bag definitely did most of the work. I am 6'2" and 200 lbs and I fit very comfortably in the bag. The comfort rating of this bag is probably right around freezing, which is pretty usable for three season camping. The zipper is high quality and it seems very well made. I would definitely not feel ripped off if I had paid $50 for this bag, so at less than $20 it is a steal. The absolute only thing that I would change about it pretty large and a bit heavy, but for the price, it is fully understandable. It is about 3.5 lbs, and even though I got it into a small backpack with room for more gear, on a longer trip it would need to be outside the back to make room for more food/water/fuel, etc. Basically, if you need a quality bag that will keep you warm down to freezing and a little below, and you are willing to carry a little more bulk and weight to save a lot of money, this is the best you will do for so little cash.
This sleeping bag is great! I'm currently deployed and the temperature has been low recently. It only took a week and a half to get here and I was so glad when it did. Its been in the low 30s and I've had no problems keeping warm even with just a shirt and shorts on. The lining isn't fleece or anything but it's a very soft and comfortable material. I'm 5'11" and there's a good amount of room. The only downfall I've found is that the zipper can be a little tricky, but as long as you're not pulling on it like you're starting a mower it isn't that much of a problem.
It was warm and comfortable
I use it right now for sleeping on the couch. I have a hard time getting out of my cocoon as I call it because it is so warm. Great bag. I highly recommend it.
It ripped out the first night I used it.
