If you paint over a stain and it keeps showing through no matter how much you scrub or paint, this is the answer. As a professional painter all my coworkers generally seek out this coverstain and use the 5 gallon version when painting a nicotine stained walls. It simply works. *It does smell very strong it is oil base
I needed an oil based primer to seal a particle board floor (not OSB). water based primer would make the flooring swell as with water damage. This is normally about $65 per gallon, outside of my perceived budget. I was happy to find it at Walmart.com for $33.97 per gallon a savings of $27.91 per gallon. The Zinsser Oil-Based primer/sealer applied easily with a flat nap roller, and covered in one-coat, drying, I allowed overnight.
Zinsser Cover Stain is an excellent primer. Sands easy and covers well. It is a must have to prime over oil base paint before using latex paint. It is also great to use on bare wood like pine and cedar.
I love Zinsser products. Their primers have saved me so much!
This oil based primer was able to cover my shiny glossed cabinets and actually stick! I was able to paint my kitchen cabinets without sanding using a coat of this primer as prep. I have tried to scratch this off and cannot do it with hard pressure from finger nails. I'm hopeful it allow my paint to stand up to heavy kitchen use! Be warned- it's oil based so it's very smelly and difficult to clean up, but once it's dried, it's great!
unfortunately my store didn't have a gallon container, which i needed, in stock. had to purchase a quart, which is almost twice more expensive per oz. otherwise, good primer.
Even though it says low VOC, the smell is horrible and you need lots of ventilation. Definitely not for inside use. I used this for unfinished kitchen cabinets. It dries way to fast and does not dry smoothly. When searched online if one can use thinner, it says it is not meant to be thinned. I made sure the temperature was correct as was the humidity. I ended up sanding off this primer. I will be returning as I only used it on two doors.
packaged damaged and need to return
Very disappointed! When I open the package the can of primer was open and has leaked out. I horrible mess that could have been avoided if the lid have metal clip on for protection and obviously no care was taken in packing. Is fair to say that the seller refunded me right away. Photos Attached:
Don't buy this It will show up leaking everywhere and stained my garage floor.
