I have used this cake pan many times over the years! It is totally awesome and really easy. I thought I would have a hard time but the cake came out so easy and the toughest part of all of it was deciding which colors I was going to use this time. My son had this cake for his 4th birthday and this year he'll be 26 He wants another train cake. Awesome!
I baked this cake last month for my grandson who turned 1. I cut half the smoke stack off then kinda hollowed out the rest. Set a medicine cup in there and frosted it. When got it ready for the birthday boy, my son dropped a piece of dry ice in the medicine cup and put some warm water in it. There fore we had a train with smoke coming out of the smoke stack. I now have another birthday to do. And after pictures the girls at work were trying to find the cake pan so they could do one.
I absolutely love the 3d train cake we did not get to practice before the party so it was a one time deal one side the detail didn't come out as good but once we started decorating it with the icing you couldn't even tell, my 3yr old loved it I also had some little square cake pans that I made into train carts .
Made the first one in '89 for my oldest son. Made it again for his brother in '93, each time for their first birthday. Now that the younger one has boys, made his son one in '18 Did a trial one first after so many years for my son. Now his second boy will be one and I will be making him one. Also, once again for his daddy. It is definitely a tradition for all the boys in this family. Love the fact that I could find additional ideas on the website for decorating.
Bought to make a Thomas bday cake for my 3 yr old. Be sure to use enough batter and snap lid closed before baking. (Follow instructions closely) It turned out great. He loved it!
This pan made a Great Thomas the Train Cake. I made it in all the Thomas colors and placed it a board with a licorice track. At the time my grandson was 2 yrs old. He looked it with big wide eyes, inspecting every inch is seemed, then said, " I LIKE it!!"
very cute
I had some trouble with this one. One side of the cake turned out perfect and the other side didn't. I may not have used enough or maybe too much batter. Was fun to decorate and my grandchildren liked it. I will try again when my one grand son turns four this summer. I liked it but it is a bit more complicated than just a flat pan.
We made a race car cake for our 3 year-olds birthday and it turned out awesomely well. It took 2 boxes of cake and it turned out moist (though it took an hour and a half to cook). We had to cut off a good deal at the bottom to make it sit flat, but it turned out fantastic. I gave it one less star because much of the car's greatness was due to my husbands great frosting job. If you just smothered it with frosting, it wouldn't look nearly so cool.
the pan is ok where is the old pans you use to have??? really wanted a bigger pan that did not have 2 pieces really was not what I wanted but greatgrandson wants a train for his birthday so....please bring back the one piece train pan please!!! This 2 piece pan must be made several times to be sure it will work out DO NOT DO IT THE DAY BEFORE!! I have been making cakes for 40 years and know trial and error so we are safe. When one worked out I froze it! Wilton I have used your products for ever please do not let me down I have trained my daughters and my granddaughter to use only your product.
