I've had two of the original Wyze Cams in operation at our home since their introduction and have always been well satisfied with them. When I spotted the introduction of the new v4 and all of its improvements to an already good product, I decided to pick one up. The new v4 now provides even better day and night security to our sun porch and deck with its predecessor now monitoring other areas of our home. Where the v4 really stands out is its clarity as well as its super capacities in the dark. Couldn't be more satisfied!!
This is the third generation camera I've owned going from a version 2 to a three to now of four and I have to say the image quality, the built-in spotlight, the build quality and speed of adding a device is noticeable. I'm not knocking the company in any way I'm merely saying this because I am a user experience designer by day. I can't wait for the app to catch up to the build quality of the hardware because there's so much opportunity to make things easier to find, set up, and troubleshoot, especially batch camera settings. I own 15 cameras now and fine tuning each one's settings is time consuming which is totally understandable considering I have so many. I know these improvements will come. I'm proud to be a Wyze customer over ring, blink and nest.
I had rwo older Wyze cameras. One stopped working so I ordered the new camera for the back porch and was truly amazed at the quality of the video. You can take snapshots you can talk back-and-forth zones in movement outside the porch. This is one great camera for a great price! I bought another one for a my great room! I will probably be buying more.
All I can say is it is SO Easy, if I can do it then anyone can! Like that I can see what's after my chickens when not home or sleeping. I have a family of 5 raccoons that visit a fox and a Possum, oh yeah & the hawks. I recommend this for anyone that has a harder time with electronics or computers and can't beat the pricing………now get yours!!!
I use my Wyze cams to time lapse the night sky, searching for meteors. When I see a flash on the time lapse, I review the playback at the time I saw, giving me a nice video of a meteor. The V4 does this well even with infrared off. https://photos.app.goo.gl/8ZmcARsNtUApCm7b7 Love all my Wyze Cams and the V4 doesn't disappoint.
It's a great camera. The only thing I don't like is that it no longer gives you the option of viewing a full timeline (if you're doing constant recording on a micro SD card) like you used to be able to do with other Wyze cameras. Instead it only records "events" now.
Replaced a pair of Cam V3s with V4s. Difference is in the picture resolution, but it may not be significant, depending on where they are installed. My only gripe is the USB "tail" is shorter on the V4, making swapping out a V3 for a V4 a problem if you don't have at least 4 inches of USB slack in the original set up. This can be a problem if running the cams off of the Wyze sockets (my case), which are also stingy on USB cable length. Fortunately, short-run USB extenders are cheap!
I'm still working out the bugs sometimes it's not recording what it should that's just once in a while. But I'm still having trouble sometimes with real time recording. Like if I'm just wanting to see if there's someone outside if I hear noises and stuff.
I really thought this camera was going to be significantly better than the ones from previous models. I placed it in the window, replacing an older model that barely worked, and I was so very disappointed in the quality of The images. I am surrounded by trees, so there is no way to possibly make a detection zone, so it records everything last night there was a thunderstorm and the lightning that it caught was so pixelated my original camera that I first got captured much better and much more clearer images. It's light and feels plastic-y. Pros and cons there. It is so light, I had to stick it on top of the window with the adhesive. Well, the older models are heavier. They seem more durable, with the exception of the wireless out. I have two that both died the first winter.
It is nothing like my prior devices. At least with my door bell I get a small video snippet to view when triggered, which is not the case with this camera. When triggered it takes you to a simple picture and you have to backtrack and then go to the SD card to try and view the video by selecting from a ridiculous time graph. Even then it does not play much of a video. Way to complicated versus my wyze doorbell. Also no matter how I have set the detection zone, it still gets triggered by movement in areas I have specifically blocked out in the menu. I am extremely disappointed and would have hoped this would have been the same style viewing as my doorbell. It seems that if I want to see any video like my doorbell they try to force you into a subscription service of which I do not have with my doorbell. At this point we are looking at getting a refund as I feel cheated, and I would rather just buy more doorbells and link them to do what this camera should be doing.
