I live in sunny California where keeping my turtles beside a large window offers them decent sunlight. My concern is that, being indoor pets, they lack outdoor warmth. I decided to try out this heat lamp combo pack because the price cannot be beat. I was immediately impressed with the lamp dome and bulb size. They are adequately sized for two small (apprx. 3-4 inch) RES turtles. Assembly was as simple as screwing in the bulb, attaching the dome to the mesh lid of their tank (I have brooder lamp hooks, purchased separately, to hold the dome in place), and plugging in the power cord. Immediately after flipping the on/off switch on the power cord to on, both my turtles clamored atop their basking dock an began stretching out for some heat. They love it and bask for hours! It should be noted that this is a heat lamp only. The bulb provided does not give out UVB light. If you do not have adequate sunlight for turtle health, you may want to consider purchasing a second dome and browse around for UVB bulbs for it. Walmart sells these products as well.
Great light but I thought this bulb was UVB and heat. The details on the product wasn't clear enough. It says combo with daylight (thinking that was the UVB) and heat so naturally i thought it was both. After I had bought it, I looked to see one review on it and I normally read all reviews. That one person said, "It's a heat lamp only" which tells me that person thought the same thing as me. So now I have to buy a lamp with a UVB bulb.
