This book provides the first simultaneous coverage of the statistical aspects of simulation and Monte Carlo methods, their commonalities and their differences for the solution of a wide spectrum of engineering and scientific problems. It contains standard material usually considered in Monte Carlo simulation as well as new material such as variance reduction techniques, regenerative simulation, and Monte Carlo optimization.

The book promotes a hands-on approach to simulation. An accompanying CD contains a version of ProModel, a ProModel tutorial and ProModel lab solutions. ProModel, a widely used simulation language, is covered extensively in the text. Lab exercises walk students through the use of ProModel to do statistical distribution fitting, basic modeling, model verification and debugging, as well as output analysis and optimization. A set of cases in manufacturing, warehousing, and service industries is also provided and can be assigned as simulation projects.

BANTAM is the first modeling language specifically designed for applications in Biometrics and Token Technology. It represents a significant step forward for the design and implementation of biometric and related technology applications in that: - it is very simple to learn and use; - it offers a consistent system of documentation and a clarity of presentation which make the accurate description of user requirements much easier; - it provides a complete methodology for managing the project from original business case, through procurement and implementation, to subsequent training and support. "The User Guide" provides much more than just a guide to the Bantam methodology: readers will also find lots of good advice on program management in general and will gain an insight into designing biometric and related applications. It will be essential reading for anyone who is serious about biometrics and related technologies, including governmental/corporate end-users, systems integrators, biometric vendors, application developers and device manufacturers. It will also be useful background reading for advanced students and IT and management consultants. Reviews of Julian Ashbourn's first book: "Biometrics: Advanced Identity Verification": "You could attend a dozen conferences and not come away with the kind of overview presented in this new book". Dave Mintie, Connecticut Department of Social Services " a highly readable, entertaining guidebook that should serve as a welcome companion for anyone who must promote, explain, justify, or control an organization's transition to biometric technology." Richard Norton, Executive Director, International Biometrics Industry Association

This one-volume text covers all important aspects of computer modelling and simulation. Based on the idea of ''learning by doing,'' this text teaches the actual construction and use of both analogue and digital simulation models in continuous and discrete systems, while emphasizing the digital computer simulation of discrete systems. Covers the use of microprocessors and computer graphics for modelling and simulation and the availability of micro-based software. Stresses practical problem-solving with numerous diagrams and numerical examples. Also provided are sample program listings (Pascal, CSMP, GPSS, SIMSCRIPT) and output from actual computer runs.

CONDITION - USED - Pages can include limited notes and highlighting, and the copy can include "From the library of" labels or previous owner inscriptions. Accessories such as CD, codes, toys, may not be included. Discrete Event System Simulation is ideal for junior- and senior-level simulation courses in engineering, business, or computer science. It is also a useful reference for professionals in operations research, management science, industrial engineering, and information science. While most books on simulation focus on particular software tools, Discrete Event System Simulation examines the principles of modeling and analysis that translate to all such tools. This language-independent text explains the basic aspects of the technology, including the proper collection and analysis of data, the use of analytic techniques, verification and validation of models, and designing simulation experiments. It offers an up-to-date treatment of simulation of manufacturing and material handling systems, computer systems, and computer networks. Students and instructors will find a variety of resources at the associated website, www.bcnn.net/, including simulation source code for download, additional exercises and solutions, web links and errata.

Simulation with Arena provides a comprehensive treatment of simulation using industry-standard Arena software. The textbook begins by having the reader develop simple high-level models, and then progresses to advanced modeling and analysis. Statistical design and analysis of simulation experiments is integrated with the modeling chapters, reflecting the importance of mathematical modeling of these activities. An informal, tutorial writing style is used to aid the beginner in fully understanding the ideas and topics presented. The academic version of Arena and example files are also available through the book's website. McGraw-Hill's Connect, is also available as an optional, add on item. Connect is the only integrated learning system that empowers students by continuously adapting to deliver precisely what they need, when they need it, how they need it, so that class time is more effective. Connect allows the professor to assign homework, quizzes, and tests easily and automatically grades and records the scores of the student's work. Problems are randomized to prevent sharing of answers an may also have a "multi-step solution" which helps move the students' learning along if they experience difficulty.
